Full sun all day is different from direct sunlight. If not getting direct sunlight for any period of time, the battery may not fully charge. Try charging it to 100% with provided cable. Light should stay charged with non-direct light. If it will not charge to 100% with cable, battery could be bad.

They can be left on at a lower setting with less light and when someone approaches they reach the full brightness.

This question is more dependent on the user as everyones opinion will differ, I would say try it out and if they do not work return them if allowed. see less

Yes, they do. I have another solar light that was not in direct sun and I have to move it because the charge would only last one day. If you don't have direct light where you want to put these up, I don't recommend getting them. If you do have it, they work great.
