I use it with Alexa and have no problems. I don't have a fire tv so can't answer that question.

Yes. It can be controlled over celluar with no WiFi. What would be the point if you couldn't? That is a main selling point of remote control via cell phone.

Make sure your plug and device are on the same wifi network, and are near (within one foot) of each other.

These plugs, only give you on-off capabilities for lights while some others like the Philips Hue setup can also give you dimming and color control.

you can use it through the app while away. my husband has the app and i ask him to turn a specific light on from 25 miles away. We also use it while at our other home for security (changing lights frequently) - 850 miles away.

Yes. I have it plugged in and Alexa turns it on and off with my verbal commands. No smartphone apps needed.
