I own one of the TP-Link/Kasa smart plugs from a few years ago that includes home energy monitoring (available on the Kasa app). it has worked really well to date, so I decided to buy a few more smart plugs from TP-Link/Kasa because they're needed. I plugged one into an electrical outlet and setup using my smartphone and the Kasa app was pretty easy.
What I like about these smart plugs: easy setup*, reliability, build quality, and general ease of use. I actually have one placed in a somewhat difficult area for a wifi signal and it still works. Google Home integration is pretty simple and wasn't much trouble at all. You simply open up the Home app on your phone or device and integrate it from there.
What I don't like about these smart plugs: easy setup*-the Kasa app or my phone tried to automatically choose the smart plug in place of my router for wifi, which lead to a 30 second delay in connecting the plug to my network. I simply had to manually select my wifi network after discovering the problem. The other major thing that I don't like about these smart plugs: no home energy monitoring! I can monitor runtime and easily turn them on and off from almost anywhere, but I cannot monitor home energy usage.
Would I buy these smart plugs again? Absolutely! They're a great value and work extremely well. Just look elsewhere if you want to use these for home energy monitoring. Other than that, 5 stars.
