The original penny dreadful was really good. This feels like its fighting to keep me there. The acting is good don't get me wrong, and the sets and writing are actually good. I just loose something in the premise and the background. Its somewhere between entertaining (outlandish) and great drama. They should have gone farther to one side or another. For this reason its been hard for me to keep me in my seat. I have it now just to back fill when I NEED to watch the screen. Disappointed it could have been better with maybe changing the background or premise. Too much history mixed with cultural belief but setup as dark fantasy. I like to step away from dark fantasy and say that was entertaining, not step away and analyze the historical context or the cultural mistakes or focus. Keep those in a historical drama.
