The large bowls are just so gorgeous.

I got the large bowls and they are so gorgeous. The quality is great for the price. Love the organic feeling and design of the bowls and looking forward to incorporating them into my daily use. It's a good weight and not too heavy.

Reading the other reviews, that they were made in China and how they felt mislead. The company only talk about the designer from Seattle, "Dorotea is a collection of nature inspired ceramic dinnerware and accessories made by Spanish-born, Seattle-based artist Carolina Silva." I don't think that is misleading people to believe that the items are made in the US, unless they expected the Designer to literally make all of these. There are different levels of Artisanship skills that come from China, to cheapen their skills because of the country they live in, is like saying everything that everything comes out of America is Walmart brand quality. It's really the reputation of the company for quality control no matter where the item is made.

I was sold by the fact that this collection was hand-made in the US. The design is lovely, the plates themselves are very nice but these items are made in China, which for me detracts from the the whole idea of buying local, supporting an artist and enjoying something hand made.

I do think there is some trickery in the advertising and marketing of these products, which is disappointing, so I wanted to help be clear about what you’re really getting. They are still nice plates, just not a potter’s personal creation.

Pretty and generously sized with a charming design. However, they are made in China, and are decidedly not handmade. At $12 each, worth the price (pending how they do in the dishwasher). Still, take heed: these objects are not created in the way that their advertising suggests, and are decidedly not handmade.

Not hand made in my humble opinion + molding

This are not handmade and you can not tell me otherwise. I ordered them because the small ones are really cute. However the big ones arrived and all of them were with glaze bubbles. So I asked for an exchange and the second one that arrived were almost with no design on them. Out of all the plates only one looked okay. Thanks to Amazon I was able to get my money back but Jesus. This are just stamped on and are all the same, with not even slight difference to show hand work. This is why some of them look okay and others are bad, because the stamp was not pressed well enough.

Update: November 19
I am taking even the one extra star I gave for the look. All of the plates I ordered from them (the small colorful plates and the deeper salat plates) except the big white plates started molding on the bottom. I hand wash them and let them dry before putting them away, however the bottom of all of them is moldy and smells terrible. I tried to fix it with bleach and that didn’t help. This is literally a health hazard.

Charming, but a couple of problems

The design is really charming, and I like the organic feel of the design, including the fact that the plates are not a perfect circle. The salad plates in particular are lovely. However, there are a couple problems with this dinnerware. First, after washing the dinner plates in the dishwasher a couple of times, I noticed something black on the bottom. On closer inspection, I saw that this was MOLD. The reason mold was growing on the bottom of the dinner plates (only) is because the bottom of the dinner plates is UNGLAZED. This is a huge design flaw. Or, perhaps a manufacturing flaw. Either way, I had to soak the plates in bleach to kill the mold growing on the unglazed bottom. Secondly -- and this is minor and really just an aesthetic issue -- the salad bowls are so wide and the slope of the sides is so shallow that you cannot see the design at all. All you see is white. If I wanted plain white bowls I would have gotten them. I wanted to see the flower pattern, but you have to get down at eye level to the table to see the pattern on those bowls.

Disappointing and oddly uncomfortable.

I had been eyeing these mugs for months, but was hesitant with the near $50 price tag. So when the price dropped by half, I snatched them up fast. Maybe I over-romanticized them during my longing wait for these, but they were really disappointing in person. They are much, much lighter in color than the photo suggests; almost desaturated. As someone who prefers subdued patterns/colors in general, this wasn’t the end of the world, but they have much less “pop” than I expected. The heat retention is another issue. They definitely keep things hot, but almost too hot. I use a mug warmer and was shocked by how hot these get compared to the other mugs in my extensive collection. I would never, ever microwave these. They also feel strangely heavy, but flimsy at the same time. Super weird, I know. Almost as though there is a porosity or hollowness to the ceramic.

As to comfort, there is much to be desired. The lip is thick and makes for a sloppy sip. Additionally, as someone who enjoys languidly holding a mug of coffee or tea for some time, I find the handles incredibly uncomfortable. They are rounded instead of flat, so there is no place to rest your fingers/knuckles without constant, pinpointed pressure.

All this said, they are unique and attractive enough that I will keep them. They are a good size. They look handmade enough to fool someone on sight, but I (like many others) was sad to see these are mass-produced in China. The description is misleading in that way.

I had initially wish-listed the rest of the set but, after experiencing the mugs, I will not be purchasing the rest.

Was OBSESSED with the design on these plates. They were advertised as “handmade” and hand-painted,” but turns out that was a false claim. These plates are made in China...not as exciting as I realize now I was not supporting an individual artist like I had thought.

The more major concern I have is the fact that ALL my plates and bowls from this set have begun to ROT and accumulate BLACK MOLD on the bottom. This is figuring and unacceptable, not to mention a total health hazard! My husband and I were eating off these plates for awhile before we noticed...the only reason we noticed was the STENCH coming from them. I’m so disappointed. Please, save yourself from all the disappointment and DO NOT PURCHASE.

Cracked item.

I love my cups but after having them less than 1 year a cup has cracked. I believe it cracked in microwave. Very disappointed. I have given this item as gifts and hope they don't gave same problem. Now 1 short. Wish ou could buy just 1 to fill set.

Mold - health hazard

Mold. I posted here a few months ago asking for guidance regarding a mildew musty smell that became overwhelming and we were no longer able to eat off of them. I just pulled the plates out of our cupboard and found mold on a handful of them. Obviously these were not glazed properly. But this is a health hazard. Really disappointing. I wish the company would have reached out when I first posted my concerns.

We wanted something on the smaller side for bowls so the size seemed perfect for us (~ 5"). They are also dishwasher & microwave safe, which sealed the deal for me. Unfortunately, I didn't find them as impressive in person, the online pictures make them seem prettier. However, the design & colors are true to the pictures. I was hoping that the bowls would add a dash of color when paired with plain white/stone grey plates, but they don't. They are sorted of 'dull' pastels. Just not what I had in mind.
