Very disappointed!

For this to be a Christmas movie from a supposedly Christian painter, it has a lot of cursing in it and definitely not godly and family oriented!

Very disappointed and wish I could get my money back!

Warm and moving Christmas biopic from Thomas Kinkade's past!
Verified purchase
This one has quite the cast! It's a moving and occasionally funny look into artist Thomas Kinkade's past, and an old artist named Glen (Peter O'Toole) who ended up inspiring him to greatness. Other well-known actors with small roles in this film include the town's bumbling mayor (Chris Elliott), Glen's agent Sidney (Edward Asner), and the little old lady who plays the organ at church (Charlotte Rae). Basically, the story follows the planning for the town's Christmas pageant, which includes Kinkade being commissioned to paint a mural which ends up inspiring everybody. Again, the storyline is rather simple, but it's the casting that makes it work. A fun, inspiring little Christmas tale.

Thomas Kinkade's Christmas Cottage

This is the amazing story of a young artist and his strong desire to make his mark in this world. He is confronted with problems and hard times as he discovers his Mom is about to lose the childhood home. Jared Padalecki is awesome as the young artist. Marcia Gay Harden is exceptional as the Mom and a wonderful example of what a loving Christian can be. Peter O'Toole as an older artist living on the boys property and a friend of the family is exceptional. He is getting old and arthritis is affecting his hands and he struggles to paint one more picture of his one true love. O'Toole teaches the young artist many things and he learns much as he spends time with his mother and brother over the Christmas holiday. You see love and friendship and how a community can come together in a time of need. This is a heart warming movie. You will love it.

like many other's

i purchased this dvd because, like many other's, i enjoy t. kinkade's work. and, was curious to get a little insight to his story. i found amazon's description and review to be informative and entirely accurate. which is why i found some of the negative product reviews to be, shall we say, interesting. if you live in a bubble, don't want to deal with the real world, don't read a newspaper or watch tv, then this, or any other dvd, is not for you. the time of year these events take place is coincidental to the story. as for me, i liked it. i see considerably more disquieting things every night on the 6 o'clock news. this movie shows moments of kindness, compassion, family loyality, tenderness and generosity of spirit. i enjoy santa and rudolph as much as anyone and enjoyed the kinkade story as well.

A Christmas Slice of LIght from Thomas Kinkade
Verified purchase
The Christmas Cottage is an excellent film to watch for the holidays. I first saw it on the Hallmark Channel and sat down to watch it because it starred two of my favorite actors, Jared Padalecki, and Peter O'Toole. After seeing the film, I am now a fan of it as well.

The story is based on a Christmas experienced by Thomas Kinkade, the famed painter of light. Returng home from school for the holidays he learns that his Mother, (Marcia Gay Hardin) is about to lose the family home, a lovely, but time-worn cottage. Along with his brother Kinkade trys to raise the money needed to save the cottage by painting a mural of the town in time for Christmas celebrations.

We soon find out that Kinkade has a mentor, a famous artist played by Peter O' Toole. He loves Kinkade like a son, but beingn at the end of his life, and talent, does not seem to be able to help.

I'll say no more of the plot, but there are moments of humor, laughs and tears.
The Christmas Cottage is now a permanent part of my annual holiday viewing. Once you've seen it, I am sure it will be the same for you.

Not your usual holiday tropes
Verified purchase
The casting of this movie is impeccable. The story is gritty enough to overcome the occasional holiday tropes that seem to be included in everything presented on Hallmark. That being said, I would watch Richard Harris and Marcia Gay Hardon in anything!

A Great Movie to Watch During the Holidays...or ANYTIME!

This is a heart-warming story about the early life of Thomas Kinkade and how he became inspired to 'Paint the Light'. Set in a quaint little town with lots of snow and a great Christmas pageant being produced, it has a great holiday setting. This should be on everyone's Christmas 'watch list'.
