How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I used to read this and I found it a great publication. Reporting has become more subjective of a term but I am amazed that his has become entertainment monthly. I used to get close to 50 magazines a year but I received less than 20 in 14 months so far. As I get older I also realize the time Warner product slant of the reviews and coverage. I would prefer it to be a little more even keeled.

I have subscribed to this magazine for over 20 years and have enjoyed it less and less. The all-too-common double issue was bad enough but now it's once a freaking month????! My favorite thing was the the What to Watch on tv section which let you know what was new and what was worth watching. Gone. New books coming out and the movies.... And instead they keep the recipes? Heck no. I'm out.

As I'm not sure when this subscription listing will get updated I wanted everyone to know the LAST ISSUE IS APRIL 2022. Do not subscribe or renew at this point.

I've read EW since the mid-90s and overall really, really enjoyed it. I subscribed wherever I could get the best price as the design, layout, editors, and publishers changed over the years. I will miss it in its best form.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not weekly entertainment :-(

This magazine used to be a favorite of mine....when it actually arrived WEEKLY. But, now it only comes once a month...and yet it is still called Entertainment Weekly. It seems like the writing and articles aren't as good either. Some of my favorite features were altered or removed altogether. I will still read it...but, not sure if I will subscribe again.

I really ordered it for the preview review of the new fall shows. I didn't get it in time, but I do like to get an opinion about the new shows to see if I want to bother to watch them or not.

So far my first issue was really good reading and very informative. Happy with my subscription

4.0 out of 5 stars still the best entertainment mag out there
Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2010

I have been reading Entertainment Weekly since issue #1. While I do agree with some reviewers that state that the mag we used to get was better than what they offer now, I still think its the best entertainment magazine out there. I would like to see them return to the irreverent magazine it was when it 1st hit the news stands. But there is still good reason why this magazine is still top of the heap for me. It does not sink to levels of tabloid reporting like many so called 'entertainment' magazines. I used to read TV Guide for their fall previews but have long since given up on reading TV Guide for anything other than what is on tonight. Entertainment Weekly provides me with a detailed analysis of the new shows (or the new music or the new movies) so I can make a more informed decision on what I am going to spend my time on. It has pointed me in the direction of a good TV show or an artist that I have not heard of more times than I can count. Its one of the few magazines I actually read cover to cover--and not just flip through. Entertainment Weekly fills an otherwise entertainment void in decent magazines.

I like the auto renewal...unlike other magazines that hassle and call you a year before your subscription runs out, Entertainment Weekly never bugs you about that stuff at all. Too bad other magazines do not realize that sometimes its better to stop reading their publication than to get woken up too early on a Saturday to be asked 'hows that subscription coming along, are you getting it week?'. With Entertainment Weekly, I found then never reminded me that my subscription was running out so auto renewal is king. Frankly, even that is classy.

Hopefully Entertainment Weekly will keep on producing informative, interesting issues and leave the crap to US Weekly and the Inquirer. I like my entertainment just fine with ET.

4.0 out of 5 stars Magazine good, but autorenewal did not work. Subscription was stuck on "pending" for 6 months.
Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2016

The magazine is good. I was a subscriber via various venues (Amazon, directly from the publisher) for probably 20 years before June of last year, when my autorenewal subscription here entered "pending" status and remained in "pending" status. I contacted Magazine customer services, who reached out to the publisher and told me "your subscription to Entertainment Weekly has expired." This was obviously untrue - autorenewing subscription and all; status "pending" - but I've canceled the subscription now.

It seems that if you want to be sure you get your magazines in a timely fashion, auto-renewal is not a good way to do it.

The magazine itself offers valuable insight into the world of entertainment media: film, music, and television are major focuses; books and videogames are also covered, though less deeply. Informative without being gossipy, its features vary from in-depth retrospectives on television series to weekly spotlights on the best of in entertainment media and regular informative, trustworthy film reviews. What would make this a perfect magazine for me would be less of the in-depth coverage, which is almost invariably on some cult film or t.v. show that I don't care about (It's rare that they cover the cult film or t.v. show that I do) and a heavier focus on entertainment reviews and news (upcoming features: films and television in the pipeline for instance).

As a reader of at least 25 years, I'd have probably kept subscribing forever if autorenewal were reliable. Living without it for six months has broken the habit.

I've loved this magazine for years!!! Great articles and very "entertaining". I would sign a lifetime subscription if they had one. Only reason they don't get 5 stars is it takes forever (2 months) for the subscription to start. Shouldn't be that hard in today's day and age to get a subscription rolling within a few days?!

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy, pleasant lightly entertaining

I subscribe to 5 or 6 magazines of which this is one. The fact that I renewed it once again says I must enjoy reading it. What is inside is all about the things we Americans do to entertain ourselves. It not only reviews movies but also TV programs, music, books,etc.. It goes inside and behind the scenes in articles about the industry of entertainment. True, it is neither earth-saving nor intellectually challenging, but then I believe that is why I enjoy it. There are more than enough of those kinds of publications. This one is for those of us who have a love of good movies and TV programming and like to have a place to read reviews
that will give us some direction in this regard. And sometimes you just want to pick up something to read that is enjoyable but not too involving. It has well-written articles that I have found to be accurate for the most part.

I've subscribed on and off for years, mostly on. It's pure fluff and I tear through my issues within a day or two, usually sending them to recycling before they are off the newsstand. Yet, I miss it when I don't have the recaps and overview of the entertainment scene.
Admittedly, I skip the music section entirely. I miss the old media/tech section where they reviewed game software, but as they probably recognized, there's better and free stuff on these topic already out there.

If you like movies, TV shows, actors, books, music, musicians....... if you like to keep on trend and up on what is hot in entertainment then you will like this. You'll definitely be in the know with this. I read it cover to cover and it comes weekly - and because of that I'm usually backed up on reading with a stack to get to. The best section is them covering movies (movie actors) which I'd claim is their focus of all of the topics.
