Gefen has no gluten or wheat in this product!

I am celiac, which means I can’t eat gluten/wheat products. My dad most likely had it and all three of my brothers were diagnosed with it. Even some nieces and nephews have it. I don’t show up on blood work, but I tell you, if I eat wheat/gluten? All my aches and pain, get multiplied by three! And that is really horrible when you have degenerative joint disease or osteoarthritis! All large joints have lost the cushion they used to have, and the pop and grind across what used to be a smooth motion.
So items in cooking that are gluten free are important! You would not believe were wheat shows up! It’s in things you would not expect! And then you think, “Oh is that why my hands didn’t work the next morning?” Or “that’s why my comb wouldn’t stay in my hand.” Anyone who has celiac knows to check for wheat/gluten in weird places, like toilet paper! So I’m cooking supplies it goes without saying, check everything!

Not great for grain free bread

Unfortunately this potato starch-based baking powder didn’t work well with my grain free baking. I tried making the same recipe twice with the same poor results. Perhaps it’s the combination of potato starch with the other grain free ingredients. I got no rise I my grain free bread which yielded a very dense, heavy loaf. I went back to my old aluminum free brand and got the results I was looking for. Perhaps this isn’t an issue for baked goods using gluten items.

Who the heck knew that most baking powders contain aluminum and cornstarch? I didn't. Now I do. I'm pursuing a cleaner way of eating and am much more aware of what I put into my body. So glad I found this product. BTW, I just made a type of bread with coconut flour and flaxseed flour, and this baking powder worked great.

GF, corn free. Made with potato starch, works well

So I’m allergic to corn, and cornstarch is usually in baking powder. I usually use Hain Featherweight, but this was available so I tried it. Both this product, Gefen baking powder and Featherweight use potato starch. This product works well, performs as-expected, and comes with a nice recipe for GF orange nut cake on the back.

The baking powder worked well and is a good alternative to the other baking powders. If the recipe calls for 1 Tablespoon you may need to bump it up to 1 1/2 Tablespoon's for best results. Also had a long expiration date.

I was a little sad that the contain is crunched it on the bottom the width of my pinky and the reverse of the can on the top about half as much. But, it didn't leak, so I use it. It works fine for Baking Powder and it doesn't reach the expiration date for a year.

I need a replacement for the baking powder which arrived damaged. There is a puncture in the container and the powder is leaking. Baking powder needs to be kept air tight or it's no good.

Food allergies are a problem

For those of us who have food allergies, products like this are great! Most baking powder uses corn starch to keep the product from clumping in the can. This has no corn starch. Now I can bake a wider range of cookie recipes without fear of food allergie reactions. The price is a little high, but that's what we have to contend with if we can't just go to the store and grab products off the shelf.

Shown in the picture. But ok. I had the one with the picture of measured cups and spoons and the roller, and ordered that one but instead it came this one with a cake’s pic on it. I don’t mind as long as the ingrs are the same and they have same ingredients. -1 start because of that.
I love it because it has simple ingredients and doesn’t have corn starch and sodium aluminum sulfate.
