5.0 out of 5 starsGreat for motorcycle use!
Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2017
I bought these for motorcycle use under a helmet. They are a replacement for my Etymotic ER-6i that my dog ate. A high standard to match if you've ever heard them.

Key requirements:
* Fit under a close fitting motorcycle helmet
* Offer sufficient seal and sound isolation
* Have sufficient volume

Pros:
* Do not protrude from ears when installed. Do not bear on helmet causing fatigue. Easy to pu helmet on and take off.
* Cord setup is nice. Detachable at phone makes losing them to damage far less likely. No tangles. Behind the ear reduces possibility of pulling when you turn your head
* Fit. Selection of foam and rubber tips helps ensure you'll get a good seal and decent bass
* Price. Good price for what you get

Cons:
* A little boomy in the bass. However, its easy enough to address with the Spotify EQ. I'd rather have too much and need to attenuate than not enough (which is almost impossible to make up for)
* Insertion technique takes a little practice to get right.

Conclusion:
Great for motorcycle use! Fair price. Quality construction

3.0 out of 5 starsSave Money - Buy MEE M6 Pros Instead
Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2018
Let me save you the money. I purchased the MEE M6 Pros about 2 years ago. They don't get heavy use but are used almost each weekend for in-ear monitors on stage. The sound isn't amazing and had some struggle picking up a good range but was good enough to hear the majority of the band and singers. However, when I came across the Shure's I thought I'd give these a try. I disregarded many reviewers that said the same thing I am about to say - the sound quality of these SE215 is equal to the M6 Pros even after getting comply tips. Seriously. Save the money unless you just want the name brand its not worth the purchase. If you want to get a better range you're going to need another driver in your IEM. I haven't tried the M7's but that would be my next purchase before moving up the Shure IEM line to get the daul drivers - talk about expensive.

FYI - the M6 is currently $45 on amazon. The M7's (dual driver) currently is $120. If you really want to spend double the price...buy the M6 and send me the rest =)!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful pair of earbuds, once you learn how to use them
Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2019
Color: ClearPattern Name: EarphonesVerified Purchase
Let's start with what I don't like. That's why you read reviews, right? Scanning through to find red flags?

As a neophyte to this earbud design, I had significant trouble putting these in my ears. The earbuds are translucent, so the small `L` and `R` letters indicating ear are near-impossible to see. Luckily, I soon learned that there are also a blue/red dots indicating the corresponding ear. Past that, how are these buds supposed to go in? There is one correct configuration, and you can only really get there by pushing, rotating, and generally fiddling until you find it. The wire goes around the *top* of your ear (also new to me), and -- depending on earlier said earbud fiddling -- can result in the wire either smoothing following the curve of your ear, or just sticking out at an awkward angle, or the wire falling limply below your ear entirely.

Also, if you're used to your earbuds tangling in your backpack, your can imagine how much hellishly worse these are with their fish-hook design. When not in your ear, they *will* get hooked on everything in sight.

Be appraised that none of these are particularly important criticisms. They're probably more indicative of my ineptitude than any endemic design failure. Just be aware: if you haven't used earbuds of this design, it can take a few hours to figure out and form an intuition for quickly popping them in your ears. These aren't like most earbuds. On to an enumeration of what I do like.

1. The sound quality is remarkable. Great balance and reserved but sufficient bass. If you're looking for ear-rattling bass, look elsewhere.

2. The noise cancelling is top-notch. The earbuds themselves are basically hollowed-out earplugs. And they're comfortable.

3. The design is superior to traditional earbuds. For all my above hemming and hawing, these buds conform beautifully against your ear, sitting flush. You can lay your head down comfortably on a couch without gigantic drivers awkwardly sticking out.

I'm happy with my purchase. I would buy them again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing headphones, love using on my commute
Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2017
Color: ClearPattern Name: EarphonesVerified Purchase
I got these headphones after learning that riding on BART in certain parts of the tunnels, the screech/howl can get up to 90 decibels. So instead of turning my iPhone headphones up to ridiculous volume levels in order to drown out the howl (and make me go deaf).... I got these! They are amazing for keeping out the howl, and have great sound quality. My music and podcasts have never sounded so good! The loop over the ear is interesting, though it's a bit of a learning curve to put them on smoothly.
- Variety of ear inserts so you can choose most comfortable (size and texture wise - offer both foam and rubber)
- Cord is detachable from the IEMs so you can replace the cord when it goes out
- Super long cord (can be nice, but can also cause you to get snagged a little more often)
- Bass sounds great, overall sound is great (way better than iPhone headphones)
- Comes with a handy little pouch to store

Love em!

3.0 out of 5 stars Warning if you wear glasses!
Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2017
Color: ClearPattern Name: EarphonesVerified Purchase
I've owned these for a couple months now and I'm not as thrilled as most people. My main issues are fit and quality of noise isolation (not quality of sound). If you wear glasses with semi thick or thick frames, good luck to you! I almost returned these because trying to comfortably wear them with either pair of my glasses is a total nightmare. I would strongly suggest looking at another pair unless you are a 100% contact wearer or have very thin wire glass frames. Thankfully i wear contacts more than half the time.
Regarding the noise isolation, its good but I dont buy that its 100$ good. I have cheaper headphones that dont involve the uncomfortable fit with noise isolation that approaches this. And I tried every size option in the kit so I don't think this is user error. All in all, I'm a bit disappointmented.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as durable as I thought
Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2017
Color: ClearPattern Name: EarphonesVerified Purchase
These headphones have great sound quality for the price. The bass response is very good. I was looking for headphones that are warm but these might be a little too warm for me. I would like a little more high end but that is my only complaint.

They also have very good sound isolation when you use the foam tips. Listening to good quality sound without outside sounds interfering is awesome. You can get very immersed in the music with these. However these tips need to be squished, like you would ear plugs, prior to being put in the ear which requires two hands and is irritating if you tend to take your earphones in and out all day.

I find these uncomfortable to wear. The few inches of the wire from where they plug into the ear buds is supposed to have "memory" so that you can shape it around the ear. I find that it doesn't have enough memory and I'm constantly fighting to keep the wires around my ear. They tend to loose shape, pop up and fall from my ear. Having the wires just hang directly is not an option because they are too heavy and will pull the buds out of my ear. The design would be greatly improved with a more solid rubber or plastic piece to go behind the ears.

My first impression was that they are very durable. The wires are thick and seem much more robust than your average headphone wires. The plastic of the buds also feels very solid and well constructed. I have a feeling you could step on these and they wouldn't break. I assumed they would last me for years. Six months after buying them, sound started to crackle and cut with movement. The insulation around the part of the wire just before the jack completely cracked and caused this issue with the sound and rendered the headphones unusable unless I plan not to move while listening. Because the wires unplug from the buds, I might be able to buy replacement wires but I haven't looked into it because they were so inconvenient to use I'm not interested in using them anyway.

For me, earbuds are for mobile, on the go use and should be durable. I thought these would fit the bill but they let me down. They are also inconvenient and uncomfortable, especially if you need to take them out and put them in frequently. Because of these factors, I will never purchase another pair again, despite the great sound quality.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great sound, disappointing quality
Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2018
Color: BlackPattern Name: EarphonesVerified Purchase
Pros: Superior sound for most genres of music. Isolates sound very well. Multiple ear tips so you can tailor your fit. Once they are in, they don't come out.
Cons: comfort-the hard plastic nestles well into the outer ear, but will eventually cause fatigue. I don't recommend sleeping in them. The wires bend over the ears, which takes some getting used to fit-wise. Ultimately, I had these earphones about 15months before one of the buds started going in and out. This is with light usage (about 5 hours a week) and careful cord care. Finally, my fellow eyeglass wearers, there isn't much room behind the ear for your glasses and these wires; my eyeglass earpieces rest on top of the wires.

I've owned multiple brands of earphones of varying quality and have yet to find a pair that last much past a year. These earbuds are great, so long as you know going in you will be replacing them in about a years time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid performer!
Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2016
Color: BlackPattern Name: EarphonesVerified Purchase
I would consider these earphones to be entry level "quality" units. Their top of the line units go for nearly $1000. Here is what I've experienced thus far:

Packaging: It looked like they had been taken out and re-stuffed back, but not quite right. One of the marshmallow buds was smashed. I have let it sit out, but it is still retaining it's "smashed" shape.

Fit: I was worried at first, but once you position them correctly and fit the cord over and behind your ear they are quite comfortable. I have used other marshmallow type buds, but this unit seems to block out even more ambient noise. I wear the cords behind my head, and it keeps the area in front of my body completely free of cords. The cord is long enough to then plug into a phone or player in a front pant pocket (I"m 6'3").

Tip replacement: Having the smashed marshmallow tip, I attempted to replace one using the guidance of the instructions. However, after several failed attempts I gave up, fearing that I would damage the unit. I could not get the tips to rotate or move at all. I will attempt again, but for now they are working ok.

Sound: Again, this is the first pair of "good" earphone buds I have purchased, but I can tell you that they are worth the $100. I'm hearing things in songs that I haven't noticed before. In some cases they are too good, picking up minor imperfections in the recording. The full range can be enjoyed without turning up the volume. When the volume is up, they do not distort, and the bass is solid.

Storage: Case is a nice thing to have considering they are $100 earbuds. The cords do not tangle, as advertised, and they do not appear to suffer from the stethoscope effect when the cords rub.

I would definitely recommend these units, and likely any unit from Shure, if you are willing to pay for the sound. You CAN tell the difference.

1.0 out of 5 stars Counterfeit SE215-CL

I had a pair of black SE215s that were one of my favorite headphones that I have ever had, but lost them on a flight. Bought these as a replacement and they seemed to be not as good. After only a month or so the wires were starting to fray so I sent them to Shure so that they would hopefully replace them, however Shure identified these as counterfeit. These were sold by Worldwide Electronics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bang for your buck as they are the best-sounding earphones of the Shure SE series at this price point
Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2017
Color: BlackPattern Name: EarphonesVerified Purchase
The best in-ear headphones that I've owned in my entire life! Period. I'm no audiophile by any stretch of the imagination - I mostly get my music from Spotify, which I listen for about 6 hours a day (I need to listen to music while I study so yea I'm not exaggerating).

Sound quality:
These are very balanced and neutral. Like many reviewers have noted, if you love bass-heavy, warmer sounds or other dynamic features these are not for you - these are meant to reproduce the sound as it is in an unforgiving way (although if you properly amplify them through some DACs or headphone amplifiers you can get a pretty good amount of balanced bass, if the audio source provides it).

I can't comment much more on the audio quality as I'm no expert or musician/audio technician, etc. but I can say that they have a pretty good sound stage (you can really pick out details in orchestration, especially if you listen to high-quality orchestral recordings) and you get a lot of details from the music. My comparison headphones are the Sennheiser Momentum M2 and some in-ear Bose earbuds but I don't have many earphones to compare this to (I usually use headphones like Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 and Audio Technica)

Comfort and durability:
Very comfortable to wear and do not stick out of your ear so you might be able to sleep on them for a bit, although they eventually get uncomfortable if you sleep on them too long. The around-the-ear cable (sorry I don't know what this form factor is called) provides great support if you are on the move and these headphones will not come out, especially if you get a good seal with the proper foams, so great for working out (although careful about running in the streets with both earphones on as this will cancel out pretty much all ambient noise even at mid-volume). If you are not used to this over-the-ear hook cable It'll take you a little while to get used to putting them on quickly but once you do is second nature (you also don't have to press on the foam tips every time you put them on but it's advised if you want a perfect seal).

The headphones and the cable seem very sturdy and my only durability concern is in the connector that goes into the headphones - if you try to wiggle it too much as you put the headphones on and off you can slowly wear it out and it might start failing but you'll be good if you're careful (you can always replace the cable if it breaks anyways).
The one thing I wished Shure would do is to sell a good replacement cable with an in-line microphone and 3-buttons control that worked specifically for Android (I believe there's one with only one button and an in-line mic but people have reported that the mic quality is pretty bad and the cable doesn't seem as sturdy) - a lot of people sometime just like to listen to music in their phones casually and don't use fancy amps or DACs with their PCs so that kind of cable would make it more fun and easier to control music when casually listening.

In conclusion these headphones will give you the best bang for your buck as they are the best-sounding earphones of the Shure SE series at this price point. If you go higher in the series you might not really appreciate the upgrade as those earphones are meant to be properly amplified (vs. your run-of-the-mill 3.5 mm jacks from integrated sound chips on portable devices) and you gotta feed them higher quality audio sources.
