How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

5.0 out of 5 starsStop Using Toxic Bleach!
Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2018
I have been using Citric Acid with Hydrogen Peroxide to clean whites and remove stubborn stains in the laundry for 4 years now . What a difference. My whites come out sparkling white without affecting the fabric and it removes cooking oil and other stubborn stains on color clothing. (I use the above mentioned combo on all colors except black) Colors come out bright and stain free. After the load has been running on wash for about 2-3 minutes just add between 1/4 c to 1/2 cup citric acid plus double amount of H2O2 (depending on the load). Let it run for about 1 minute then stop the machine and let it soak for about 15 -20 minutes. Resume wash cycle. Clothes come out fresh smelling/clean, soft and sanitized ! Couldn't ask for anything better . My friends always ask me my 'secret' for keeping towels, T-shirts, etc. looking new for years! This combo also cleans/disinfects bathroom sinks/toilets and pet ''errors'. No poisonous, toxic bleach in this house!

1.0 out of 5 starsHORRIBLE PACKAGING!!
Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2019
This company need to use a different method of packaging their product!! I noticed what appeared to be sand on my driveway (I didn't think much of it).. once inside the house, I picked the box up and and proceeded to open it (Not knowing what was inside the amazon box).. when I opened the box I saw nothing but what appeared to be a sand mound!! I took it to the bathroom straight awayand sat the box over the sink!! My box had a big order inside of it!! Everything was white.. the bag that the Cetric Acid was in ripped from one side to the other!! (My ENTIRE ORDER WAS RUINED, MY DRIVEWAY PAVERS HAS WHAT APPEARS TO BE RUST STAINS ON MAYBE SIX OF THEM, ONE SIDE OF MY THROAT BECAME SOAR (FROM CLEANING UP THE FINE PARTICLES) MY HANDS WERE BURNING -- I DIDN'T HAVE ON GLOVES-- WAS TRYING TO CLEAN AND SWEEP UP THE MESS BEFORE IT DESTROYED MY HARDWOOD AND TILE FLOORS)!!!
After all of that, I didn't make the bath bombs and my anxiety went through the roof!!
Funny thing is, this company doesn't accept returns!! (Amazon took it off my bill though)!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good price
Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2016

This is more granular than some of the citric acids I've bought on here. Kind of like generic powdered lemonade. However I use it for the dishwasher and my HE laundry and this stuff has changed my life for the better. However, if I was making bath bombs I'd want finer grain.UPDATE: The seller saw my 3 star review and reached out proactively to tell me the bag I got while not compromised in quality was a bigger grain that they usually sent and they were sending me another bag for free. When I got the new bag, it was the much finer grain that we are all used to in Citric Acid. So kudos to the seller for reaching out and admitting the mistake.

4.0 out of 5 stars Miracle for hard water build up!
Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2017
Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)Verified Purchase
This stuff is great if you have hard water. We have really hard water, like run vinegar thru the coffeepot at least every other week hard water. Dealing with the build up has been a major pain in my backside since I moved here over 20 years ago. Things you can easily soak (shower head, coffee pot, ect) weren't a big deal with vinegar (just a pain to have to do it), but other things, like the water line in the toilet... Oy! There's no good way to soak that. Recently it was time to tackle the build up again and I searched for something easier/less toxic and came across a recommendation for citric acid. I'd bought this for bath bombs that I hadn't gotten around to making yet and once I tried it, I thought I'd found magic! This stuff tackled my hard water build up problems like a dream, so much so, I bought another bag so that I'd still have some after I made bath bombs. I plan to never be without this stuff again. It makes a difference in laundry, too, allowing your laundry soap to work better. The bath bombs came out great, too. My only complaint is that both bags I've ordered have come with cuts in the bag and citric acid all in the box. I didn't lose a whole lot of product, but I really wish they'd fix that issue.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helped slough off nearly 16 years of limescale in my sump basin
Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2021
Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)Verified Purchase
Recently my home's sump pump failed. It and approximately half of the 48" x 15" ribbed sump basin was covered in limescale. After extracting the pump, I tried cleaning the basin. I removed >80 gallons of water in buckets, scrubbed the sides with a brush, and wet vacuumed out limescale chunks that had accumulated on the bottom. However, limescale stubbornly clung to the sides of the basin in the lower 24". So I turned my gas water heater down to pilot, closed its cold water intake, attached a 50' garden hose to its drain valve, then transferred 50 gallons of 125-degree F water through a secured sock (to collect any sediment that may have settled in the tank) into the basin. I then added 4 cups of citric acid to the heated water. At the one-hour and four-hours marks I noted carbon dioxide bubbles surfacing which let me know the acid reaction was successfully converting the calcium carbonate into calcium citrate. Within 12 hours ~95% of the limescale easily brushed off the basin's sides. I then emptied it, let it refill with groundwater, then installed the new sump pump. I think the extra cleaning step will extend the new pump's operational life.

I also successfully removed rust-colored sediment from two toilet tanks using the citric acid. I did this by combining four gallons of hot water plus one cup of the acid in each toilet tank. Within an hour the tanks were clear. No scrubbing was required.

Even though I've tried three times I haven't seen any improvement when adding citric acid to my dishwasher.

My only negative experience using the citric acid as a natural cleaning agent was it turned the color of my refrigerator's black tray sump gray. Thus I had to purchase a new tray sump to replaced the old one (reference attached side-by-side photo comparison).

Notwithstanding, overall I'm pleased with this product and will continue to use it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow! What a punch! Great! 👍
Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2020

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I make my own popsicles and things but I like them super sour so I started buying store popsicles because they had the sour kind. Well, last year I moved to a smaller area & no one carries those kind of popsicles so that’s what got me into making my own & then I found these reusable plastic sleeves (about twice the size of the boxed push up liquid sleeves that you can get mostly just in the summer) & I love those kind but again not sour enough So I did a little research and came upon this. Now I can make all of my favorite frozen treats (or anything that needs a sour zing), add a little citric acid & wala! This is the best deal I could find online & I can’t find it locally so I ordered it. There is a lot more than I expected in the bag which is great, it only takes a tiny amount so it should last me quite awhile. Shipping was great, came on time, everything went smoothly. The only thing I could say was just a slight disappointment is that I waist the granules were smaller. I would have loved to have found powder but since I couldn’t I went with this because it says how small the granules are. Don’t get me wrong, they are small but they could be smaller. I was hoping the would be small enough to roll a thin layer on the outside of things for that extra pucker but it’s unrealistic and overwhelming with the size they are. Oh well, there is always ways to work around stuff, especially when creating in the kitchen!

4.0 out of 5 stars Be careful when using on pool cement
Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2019
Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)Verified Purchase
Just received the product yesterday, so I can't say how it works against keeping frogs away, quality seems good, but I wanted to warn other users who might be thinking about using it to keep frogs out of their pool. I sprayed it around the edge of my pool yesterday afternoon, whether it cleaned (more likely) or just stained the cement is uncertain, but you can see exactly where it was sprayed and where it was not. Does not look good. Washing it down didn't do anything. If it doesn't fade, I'll probably have to pressure wash the entire deck.

4.0 out of 5 stars Probably not a good idea as this says food grade and really shouldn’t ...

I have never left a review before but felt that the only way for Amazon to see this was to do so. I did leave a shipment review as well. When I opened my box this is what was inside. There seemed to be a slit in the bag that someone at the warehouse tried to fix with Amazon packing tape. I thought for a second I did it when I opened the box but realized that was why the tape was on the bag. Probably not a good idea as this says food grade and really shouldn’t send something someone may use on food. I however am going to use it for bath bombs so I think it should be safe still to use. But not being able to return it kind of stinks that I now have to find a container to put it in. I would rather leave it in the bag. But if this is the worst thing that I have going on in my day I’ll take it. I left 4 stars just for the fact that I now have to clean up where it spilled out from the box onto the table and floor and having to find something to store it in now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool Mist Humidifier is working again
Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2021
Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)Verified Purchase
Used this acid for my 10 months old cool mist humidifier that clogged and not producing mist any longer. It worked and saved me some money. It did, however, produced some grimy white residue all over the table that it sits on and the floor below.

I will do this outdoors next time. Thankfully it did not produce any unpleasant scent even tho my bedroom was filled with clouds of mist from this process. It took ceiling fan a long time to get rid of it. Thinking maybe best to wash the bedspread.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing shine
Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2017

Beautiful results cleaning stainless steel dishwasher with this product, but have not tried other uses so will reserve one star for later. Before, cleaning my stainless steel dishwasher with Milliard Citric Acid was a chore due to built up hard water residue, but one cycle made it shine like new. Now am going to run it through my front-load washer. Have not tried it on chrome fixtures as yet because I've not read up on safe uses for this product and it recommends not to be used for flatware which is a disappointing.

This is great stuff. Clean product, consistent and an excellent earth friendly cleaner, laundry addition, disolving calcium on plumbing fixtures, humidifiers, and plant acidifyer. Note, it can be surprisingly strong, depending on how it is mixed. It is so good, I just bought a second bag. For the price, this is a good deal.

4.0 out of 5 stars it did descale my home distiller.
Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2020
Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)Verified Purchase
bought this to clean/descale my home distiller; it did do the job, however, it took three times more than the one that I had previously bought; so while it was cheaper by the pound, the lack of strength/cleaning made the product actually cost me more to keep my pot clean. However, I like the free shipping and will probably buy again. overall, I am trusting that perhaps the less strength of this product makes it safer for me to use in the long run. thank you.
