Use instead of vanilla for chocolate confections.

In my baking realm I believe that an extract of the same flavor as what you are making (i.e. chocolate, vanilla, cherry, etc.) should be incorporated to enhance the flavor. I never could comprehend the use of vanilla in a chocolate recipe since it didn't do anything to bump it up. I love OliveNations extracts and I have quite a few of them, but I go through the chocolate extract very quickly. Theirs actually tastes like chocolate and not chemicals and really add that chocolate boost to my confections. People always ask me for the recipes and how I do my little tricks with Boxed cakes when I am in a rush to get something made like the one in the photo. They are clueless that it was prepackaged aside from the icing. And it was devoured very quickly. I am trying to teach my husband how to bake and how to learn that what is written isn't in stone when it comes to certain ingredients, mainly extracts. Have fun with them and only buy quality products like OliveNations. I strongly recommend that you try this and any of their other products.

Bought to add to various drinks (coffee, alcohol drinks, etc) for a more chocolate taste. Gotta tell ya, whether i add a little or a lot, I have not found any type of drink that it actually adds a chocolate taste. I can’t even describe the taste. Have NOT tried in baking anything yet.

First off, please don’t taste any extract straight from the bottle and expect it to taste like anything but alcohol. Extracts are made with alcohol silly.
That said, this is an excellent extract of Cocoa, it greatly boosts the flavor in baking anything chocolate. Use it in anything that gets heated to dispel the alcohol. This is wonderful in my morning hot cocoa, I use just cocoa powder and boiled water, no sugar and a few drops of this chocolate extract greatly enhances the cocoa flavor. It’s wonderful in brownies too. Why use vanilla in a chocolate cake? Give it a try, I really love OliveNation chocolate extract.

I used this in secondary fermentation for a Chocolate Stout. The recipe had called for 1.5 oz of Chocolate Extract for a 5 gallon batch. When the batch was completed, kegged and carbonated, the beer was very smooth but the chocolate taste was too strong for my preference. I would use it again but would cut the amount to 1.0 oz, or maybe even 0.8 oz. Amazing how strong it is.

I'm SO glad I had decided to bake a batch of brownies and try this chocolate flavoring, BEFORE baking 20 pans for the church supper!! This stuff smells like ether....that's the best way to describe it....I added just 1/4 teaspoon for the normal "batch" of butter-cream frosting. Not good, and I had shaken the bottle well prior to pouring. Out went the bottle.....and frosting! If you want chocolate-flavored frosting, flavor with cocoa, yo!

Chocolate Flavor is Overpowered by Other Flavors

The taste is decent. At first smell you kind of go "Oh! That's chocolate!" But then you notice a strong alcohol smell. Okay. Maybe it doesn't affect the taste so much? Unfortunately, it does. I made a batch of fudge. Very first question asked: "Does this have alcohol in it?" Let me tell ya... That was NOT the first question I wanted to hear. I sheepishly said "Well, yeah, the chocolate flavoring I used has some in it." Sure, there's also some vanilla flavor as some other mentioned, but I'd expect that and it's not nearly as overpowering as the alcohol taste is.

Unfortunately, until I compare this with another product, I cannot recommend this.

Disappointing in my coffee

I use extracts to flavor my coffee without adding sugar or calories. While the chocolate extract smells vaguely like chocolate, it tastes like chemicals and adds nothing positive to the coffee. In contrast, the hazelnut extract is very good and the maple is only fair, but acceptable occasionally for a change of flavor. I have not baked with any of them, so I don’t know if cooking might help.

More an altered vanilla flavor than chocolate

Tried it a couple of times to enhance hot chocolate. Then dumped the rest. What came through was an unusual and somewhat unpleasant vanilla flavor. Might work better if added to something that needs a bit of vanilla and chocolate flavor, but doesn't already have any. But it would be a gamble.

I used to buy Watkins chocolate extract, which was excellent, but I think they don't make it anymore. This one is a total disappointment, as are all the other brands, besides Watkins, I've tried so far. The OliveNation caramel extract doesn't taste good, either.
