How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

0 seconds - Placed loaded ball on floor
30 seconds - my sheppard mix has figured out that rolling it gets treats
2 minutes - she figured out that it rolls better on area rug than tile floor. Picks it up and returns it to rug when it rolls off onto the tile
4 minutes - she figured out that the toy is terrifying my 5 month old golden retriever and chases him around the room with it
6 minutes - terrified 50 lb golden jumps on my wife on the couch and climbs over her onto the end table knocking everything off it
8 minutes - I stop laughing enough to hear the wife say that toy is banned from inside the house

Best dog toy ever.

I got this Ball in the Mail yesterday for my Yorkie/Maltese/Bichon Frise Mix..she is 7.2 lbs and played with it for like 10 minutes before she got her bottom Jaw/Teeth completely stuck in the ball and we could not remove it at all.. We had to go to the Emergency Vet and she was sedated and had to have that Ball surgically removed from her Teeth/Jaw ...The Ball cut into her Gums and made them Bleed and left her with abrasions on her Neck as well... She is now on Antibiotics and will not be able to eat her regular Food for a few Days till her Gums heal... She is still groggy and sleeps a lot... I would like to know why there is no Warning what so ever about this being able to happen to small Dogs?? I ended up paying $245.00 for the Vet Bill..I think you Guys should pay that ...

1.0 out of 5 stars !!!Life Threatening for small dogs!!!

This product is described for small dogs and my yorkie playing with it today 2/28/2020 lodged her lower jaw in the treat delivery hole!!! You can see in the pics her tongue is out, she was salivating and could barely breathe! We rushed her to the Vet who treated our love, Lucy, repeatedly with gas sedation as she began breaking the plastic into pieces. Each time Lucy woke up from sedation she was disoriented and crying, then sedated again until the process was done to free her. This was a horrible experience for Lucy and traumatic for us all. What if no one would have been home when Lucy accidentally got her jaw lodged??? She would most likely have died, broken her jaw, or maybe broken teeth? Please DO NOT buy this for small dogs!!

1.0 out of 5 stars very dangerous and poor quality

I would not advise getting this product if your dog chews/bites at all. I got this for my Shiba Inu and she had it for less than 2 minutes before she tried to pick it up and the plastic cracked. This is very poorly made and has small ridges of plastic that splinter off very easily. I am very glad I heard and took it away before she could get hurt but I am still looking for the small plastic shard from the edge. It is possible that this might be useful if your dog doesn't have teeth but even then I honestly doubt it.

Pia Crosby
1.0 out of 5 stars Don’t buy this, it could kill your dog, if he/she is a strong chewer!
Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2020
Size: 4 inVerified Purchase
Update: Hyperpet responded immediately to my review and I commend them for the way they handled our situation.

This is a very dangerous toy, and nowhere in the description on the website does it indicate that this is unsuitable for some dogs. Our 50 pound Bernedoodle, 11 months old, was able to somehow open the “durable” plastic outer ball without any damage to it, and chewed and ingested the whole IQ level 1, 4 inch diameter, yellow disc. At first we had no idea what happened, it just had “disappeared” from the room without a trace. During the night however she threw up, but only a tiny fraction of the very hard, very sharp edged pieces. An emergency vet trip in the morning ($ 440.00) including barium and consecutive X-rays yielded the first results: the rest of the pieces are traveling through the intestinal tract, had reached the small intestine, and we could hope that she could pass all others without surgery. But any time during the next 3-4 days we could still face surgery, as no one knows what the larger pieces would do. This happened on a Thursday after noon and after 24 hours on Friday she began to pass large quantity of sharp edged pieces! This lessened during the next 24 hours, but the today, Saturday larger pieces are still coming through. I can only hope and pray that none of these pieces will either perforate her bowels or cause an obstruction. The vet says we won’t be out of the woods for a while.
In the meantime I have spoken to an Amazon agent, pleading with her to take this product off the website, or ask the company to put on a warning on the website for this product that can clearly be seen: not for strong chewers. I discovered only a fine print notice on the package after the incident had already happened, but too late. If our dog should need surgery we would of course face a bill of in the thousand.

P. S. The illustration shows some of the chewed pieces. The larger amount on the left is the part she threw up, the 3 separate pieces on the right are the largest so far that actually passed through the intestines and exited. I think it makes the point better than my review.

PJ
5.0 out of 5 stars 20 minutes of FREEDOM!!!!!!!! Lol, TWENTY MINUTES!!!!!!!
Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2018
Size: 3 inVerified Purchase
This IQ treat ball is the third mind game I have purchased for my six month old puppy. For reference, she is a 6.5 pound Chorkie and I purchased the 3" ball and fill it with small breed puppy dry food.

About this ball first,......it is the least expensive and most engaging of all three games that I have purchased. I will list the other two below. This ball takes her twenty minutes to eat the same amount of food that previously took her two minutes. Now, anyone with an active puppy knows the value of anything that will keep your puppy occupied for twenty minutes. The only thing previous to this ball to keep her occupied for this long was a brand new pool cue!!! Yes, I did say pool cue and brand new, .....and six pound puppy, lol. My husband says that's okay, the other dog owners in the park with their frisbee will have nothing on him when he takes that pool cue out and flings it and yells fetch and our little Chorkie picks it up and comes running.

When I first got this ball, I took it apart to fill it,......big mistake!!! It took me forever to get it back together with food inside. Instead, I find it easier to just drop the pieces into the hole from the top and shake them down. Keep it screwed tightly, as it can pop open with all that action. The only reason I will take it apart now is for cleaning.

Now, the other two games I bought for her were the Trixie treat tower (think doggy Kerplunk) and the Trixie level 2 flip board. Both are cute and fun for her, but she figured them out in five minutes and now can do them in less than two minutes. Nevertheless, they are fun for her and make her feel smart. If I could only afford one game, it would be this ball, as it keeps her busy for twenty minutes, 20 full minutes,......imagine what you can do with twenty minutes of freedom!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars from the husky puppy
Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2019

I purchased the 4” ball for my 46lb 7month old husky puppy. To say he loves this thing is an understatement. Following his husky nature, he gets bored easily and he also destroys most toys fairly quickly. He loves Kong toys, but I wanted to try out something else for him, and he immediately fell in love with the ball. I like that it’s large so he can’t swallow it, but it’s not too big because he’s still able to carry it around, and he has been carrying it around ALL day. A definite win!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Puppy got his bottom jaw stuck inside
Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2017
Size: 3 inVerified Purchase
My Pom puppy got his bottom jaw stuck inside and it took him about 5minutes to dislodge. In the meantime I am frantically calling the Vet and trying to help him. He was in so much pain.
This is not for small size puppies or tea cup dogs. He was really excited to play and get the treats out but now is too scared to even come near it. To all furparents with small puppies, make sure that the hole is smaller than the width of the bottom jaw.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Puzzle Toy
Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2018
Size: 4 inVerified Purchase
My corgi eats SO FAST. We got him a puzzle feeder, and he still tears through his food like you wouldn't believe. We feed him his dinner after we sit down to eat and is done within minutes, and then is at the dog ringing his potty bells like a mad man.
I tried this out the first night it arrived. I put in 1/4 cup of his dinner (which I think is the max we could probably get it) and it took him a good 20 minutes to work it all out so we were finally able to eat dinner in peace. After he got it all out, we put the remainder of his dinner in his puzzle feeder. It's super easy to clean and take apart! We'll be trying to feed him his whole dinner out of this eventually, it's good to keep him busy for a while!
