Cup Lasted a Year Before Losing Insulating Properties and Leaking Water
Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2018
Update 2/19/2020 I can't believe it...after all this time, Tea Forte is sending me a replacement. If they have commented on your review to contact them, do it, and they will make things right! I have only added one star, because I need to see if the next cup fails like the old one. However, I am very happy with the customer service (even if it took 3 years).
I received this as a gift in May 2017. At first, I loved it, and used it constantly. It kept my fingers from being burned by the hot water I use for tea, and it looked nice. I was ready to purchase more of them later this year as gifts for my family.
When I first got the cup, I noticed that there was an area under it that has a rough patch of what looked like cement (ceramic I guess). Unfortunately, about a week ago, I took the cup out of the dishwasher and noticed that the rough patch was gone, and there was a hole was there instead. I didn't think much of it and started making a cup of tea. After the tea steeped, I noticed that there was a puddle of water under the cup. At first, I thought maybe the cup broke and was leaking. After looking more closely, I found that water had gotten inside the insulated portion of the cup through this hole and was now seeping out because the cup was placed upright. Obviously, the insulating properties were gone as well, and when I picked up the cup, it burned my hand (which it didn't used to do). I decided that maybe I could keep using it as a regular cup and let the water drain out of the hole after washing. That didn't work either. The insulated area is full of water that drains out VERY slowly. I can hear it slosh around when I shake the cup, and some drips will come out. The drips are enough to make a puddle each time I place the cup down, but not enough to empty it out. This will be going into the trash, and I won't buy from Tea Forte again until this issue is fixed.
