This outlet just saved my kitchen...
Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2019
I bought this over a year ago (Dec 2017) and installed it as the first outlet servicing my kitchen circuit.
This morning, the ancient old garbage disposal unit (circa 1980's I'm guessing?) leaked water onto its electrical input. It tripped the outlet, causing the whole kitchen to go dark. I had no idea what was causing it at the time, and after resetting it several times, each time I heard the buzzing sound of an electrical short. My girlfriend noticed a spark under the kitchen sink the final time I reset it.
So... YES... it does exactly as it should! And it also saved me from a potential fire in the kitchen. I am now a big proponent of AFCI & CAFCI devices.
Is there any downside to these? Well, yes, there actually is, but it's a very minor one. If you run a large microwave that's "underloaded" - in other words you are warming up just one slice of pizza or a hot pocket in a big, 14,000 watt microwave... it is probably going to trip the outlet. In these cases, my kids have learned to put a glass of water or couple slices of old bread in the microwave as well to it isn't "underloaded" anymore.
To me, I could care less about a glass of water or "sacrificial bread" in the microwave to keep my kitchen safe. But these outlets DO WORK, and they work when they are supposed to. I'd give this 6 stars if I could - for the fact that it saved my kitchen or house today. :)
