Beautiful set, but condition upon arrival was disappointing

This is such a smart and beautifully designed set. I love the clean lines, the thoughtfully placed handles in both the chairs and the desk, making them easily maneuverable. Upon presenting it to my 15-month-old son, he immediately climbed into the chairs and made himself at home at the desk. He also easily climbed atop the desk, which was both amusing and a little frightening, but moreso amusing. After all, he’s an active toddler and tends to climb anything and everything. I love that the chairs have two seating levels, and the desk can used as an upside-down “U” table as well as a desk with a ledge AND as a bench! The neutral, light-colored finish complements my son’s furnishings, and is in line with Montessori decor, which is what we are starting to transition into.
Now for the not-so-good... as others have mentioned, the quality of the craftsmanship is less than perfect. My set arrived with several deep scratches, dings and marred surfaces. Yes, I know this is toddler furniture so I’ll be honest in saying I’m not expecting his furniture to remain in prestine condition, but surely it’s not too much to ask for it to arrive brand new out of the box in perfect condition. Though I don’t believe this set to be used, it did arrive looking like it’s been lovingly used by an active toddler. The box also appeared beat-up, with tape over old tape that had been sliced open. Perhaps it was a return or exchange? Or perhaps it wasn’t packaged or handled well by the manufacturer? I’ll never know. While it’s not enough to warrant the hassle of an exchange, I am docking two stars because it’s highly disappointing to pay a premium for a set that does not look new straight out of the box.
All in all, I would still recommend this set as it’s beautiful and practical, but I’ll be contacting the manufacturer to express my disappointment in its condition upon arrival.
