Years and years ago, I had a sheet set that I didn't appreciate at the time. The kind of purchase you buy in your youth when money is no real issue but relegate to the back of the linen closet when you color preferences change. I rediscovered that set recently (no longer usable as we upgraded to a larger bed) and I realized...those sheets never pilled, never wore, never frayed. And here I am now with "soft" sheets, navigating and avoiding holes each night.

Figuring repurchasing quality sheets would be pricey, I've put it off for months. Meanwhile, I'd been researching what is was about those original sheets that I liked so much. The tags had been long worn...no clue brand, material, or weave.

What I'd determined was I liked their crispness, their weight, and their overall thickness. And what I needed to find would be long staple cotton.

I discovered these sheets in particular on Amazon and the price was far less than I was expecting to pay.

Some say itchy - I say crisp.
Some say wrinkly - I say...duh. 100% cotton
Some say lower thread count - I mention quality of thread used

I'll update should I discover deteriation with use, but so far...these are PRECISELY what I'd been looking for.

Update: nearly 1 year late, there has been no noticible wear. They are softer now, but still look great with no pilling for fraying. These were precisely the sheets I had hoped for.

1.0 out of 5 starsNot the same sheets I ordered last year, disappointed.
Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2018
I bought these sheets this time last year and I loved them. They were silky and soft and they fit my king size bed perfectly. I reordered these sheets and they are not the same. The ones I just received are rough, they feel cheap. They also don't fit my bed (same exact bed) as well. I'm disappointed. In the picture, the old sheet is on the left and the new sheet is on the right.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only sheets I use in my vacation rental business!
Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2019

I recently purchased 25 sets of these sheets to add to my current inventory. I posted another detailed review a while back, so I will augment that review by giving a history about why I love these sheets; I embarked on a "perfect sheet" journey a couple of years ago. I wanted to find the best sheets for my guests so they feel that luxury they deserve when they stay at my properties. I purchased all the sheets you hear about on radio and internet ads. I even purchased a subscription to a consumer magazine and read about the sheets they compared. I purchased each one on the list. I didn't think I could bring myself to pay $400 for a queen set of sheets. But, I did. I literally put the California Design Den set (I purchased for my own bed) against the $400 set and the 5 others on the consumer list. I took out a powerful magnifying glass to see the differences in the weave, closed my eyes and felt them, smelled them, took photos of them, washed and dried them all and slept on them, personally. I literally could not see, feel or smell a notable difference among 6 different sets of sheets (all were 400TC Sateen Weave). There may have been subtle differences in the name tags, the thread used to sew the seams, the top thread design, shipping container, etc. Other than that, no difference in the way it felt or how I slept. My wallet is the one that felt the difference!! I have received public reviews about my linens on multiple occasions. I now have over 150 sets of these sheets, all in white, in varying sizes. I have never experienced any negative issues, each set consistent as the next. The instructions say to wash them before sleeping on them, do it. I followed the enclosed drying instructions, making sure NOT TO BAKE the sheets on high heat. I do all the laundry for my vacation rental business and I have followed those instructions each and every time I washed them. I wash, on average, 40 sets a week (during the summer its closer to 80). I have had these for almost 2 years and they are softer, and just as beautiful as the day they arrived.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stop searching, you want these sheets
Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2018

Like some I've been searching for the right sheet set for a few weeks. I've read tons of reviews and will doubt which I should consider. My goal was to find sheets to fit my queen temperpedic mattress (which also has a pillow top). I'm tired of purchasing "deep" or "extra deep" pocketed sheets that I still end up wrestling with to get on the last corner of the bed. I've held my breath as I've tried to stretch it on, my poor fingers pinched in the process, thinking... please don't rip... They eventually always do rip at the seam. I've purchased from one end of the spectrum to the other. From a set at your local wholesaler club to an embarrassing amount on a Vera Wang set. In my searching if I found sheets which claimed to be deep enough to fit my mattress the material of the sheets where a blend and not 100% cotton. Getting 100% cotton is important to me and I've found them to be the most reliable. Some people complain about wrinkles with cotton. This can easily be solved by not overloading your dryer and not over drying your sheets. The company also includes a care card which discusses over drying. At the most some may want to iron their pillow cases. I throw a comforter over my sheets so the minimal wrinkling does not bother me. I haven't had the sheets long enough yet to let you know if pilling happens. In the past if I went for too high a thread count I would a end up seeing pilling. I know 400 doesn't seem high for some but these sheets were surprisingly soft and silky before and after washing. They are not stiff or loud. Elastic goes around the entire fitted sheet which includes a "foot" tag for easy identification of the corners. The pictures I've taken include before and after washing. I have plenty of room with the fitted sheet, no more pinched fingers! I would say they could easily fit a mattress thicker than mine around 15in. (18in might be stretching it). I am happy with my purchase and will be buying more. (The last picture is after washing, the wrinkles in the other pictures is before washing)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sheets - excellent fabric!
Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2018
Size: FullColor: Bright WhiteVerified Purchase
I'm quite the fabric snob. Since I sew and quilt a great deal, I know the feel and durability of good FABRIC. Cotton is my fabric of choice, and some cottons hold up a whole lot better than others due to the weave, type of cotton and thread count. I had grown so weary of the microfiber sheets we had. That's all you can find in stores, and after purchasing a set for my bed, I realized that these were not the sheets for me. I needed good, durable cotton. I seemed to be on an impossible quest.

My standard, ironically, were a few white cotton flat sheets that my mother gave me to use as quilt backing. They were my Nana's and probably 50 years old, but they were in perfect condition (other than a few bluing stains which were easily removed). When I used them to back a few quilts, I reveled in their weight, their thickness and how beautifully they came out of the washer and dryer. I searched for a sheet set with all of the qualities and characteristics of my Nana's top sheets. Searched and searched.

And I finally found them! These are it! These sheets wash beautifully. I have hung them on my clothesline to dry direct from the washer (they were a tad wrinkly, but who cares?) and I have thrown them in my dryer. You do have to remove them when they're JUST dry - do not let them bake and over-dry (I was used to that routine from pre-washing/drying yards and yards of fabric to sew with). Both methods of drying work well and the sheets are soft and SOOO comfortable. Pockets are deep on the fitted sheet, the flat sheet is extra-long for easy tucking and the pillowcases easily accommodate a large, fluffy pillow.

I could not be happier with these sheets. They are now my go-to sheets, as I will be purchasing other sets to outfit other beds in my home so I can get rid of those nasty microfiber sheets that are horrible!

4.0 out of 5 stars Really like them
Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2019
Size: FullColor: Bright WhiteVerified Purchase
I've had these for about a month now. I have washed them twice and they are doing great so far. Very comfortable. Fit bed and pillows fine. (Saw a review about pillow cases being to small, but it seems they fixed that problem.) Gave them a middle review on wrinkles, but that is normal for 100% cotton. Don't take it as a negative. If you need sheets that look like a piece of glass, ... well sleep on a piece of glass. Really like them being 100% natural as I hate all these chemicals companies are using. I'm breathing next to these 6-8 hours a day. Really don't want a bunch of man made chemicals going into my lungs. My sheets are under a blanket and a quilt. If there are a few wrinkles in them, I really don't care.
Giving them a couple more months, if they hold up, I plan on buying sets for the entire house.
I bought the 400 count, plain white so I can bleach them when I wash, keep two sets per bed in house and try to change them weekly. Probably average changing them every 1.5-2 weeks. (Life gets in the way, do what you can!)
I've gone to all white in linens and towels, and all natural material, so they can be bleached and washed in hot water.
Friends of mine have bad allergies and this kills pollen, dust mites, etc. and they love it. If your family has allergies / asthma, etc., get those man made chemicals / materials out of the house.
Went a little off base there with this review, but in closing, I plan on continuing to buy from this company.

PS. They said add a picture, they didn't say it had to be about the product. That's Mister Cat, he's in charge around here. He loves the sheets, the white matches his cat hair.

UPDATE:
Don't know were these negative reviews are coming from. The sheets I got are soft. If you think sheets should come out of a dryer without any wrinkles, well, maybe you need professional help.
I just ordered 2 more sets, along with the extra pillow cases they now have available. (Thank you for making those available.)
I rarely leave reviews, I was not paid for this review, I just like this product.
If my new order changes my mind, I will update.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised - horrible in more ways than one
Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2020

What happened to the good o'l days when you ordered something, and recieved the product as advertised? Those days are long gone.

Make sure you read the key details section / which is the most accurate description of this sheet set.
First off all, they are 100% cotton "sateen", NOT 100% cotton. Product page does not state this fact..There's a huge difference between 100% cotton sheets and 100% cotton sateen sheets.
Sateen means they have a softer feel than 100% cotton sheets and a shiney appearance that 100% cotton sheets dont have.

Secondly, the color of the white sheet set I recieved is off white.
I confirmed this when I placed them out of the package and on top of my washing machine, which is white.
I will donate the whole set to a shelter because I wanted a white 100% cotton sheet set..instead I get an off white shiny set.

Very misleading ad in the product review..nothing on it states that these are cotton sateen only if you scroll down further it is mentioned in the key detail section.
1 star rating is a bonus for this set of sheets..
My experience is a big fat 0 all the way around.

1.0 out of 5 stars Heavy, coarse, itchy. Terrible product. How is this so well-reviewed?
Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2018

Of the hundreds of products I've ordered from Amazon, this is the first I've returned for any reason other than damage during shipping. It is a truly terrible product. I fail to understand how this is "Amazon's choice" and how it has almost 3,000 reviews and a 4.8 star rating. I bought these to replace some worn Walmart sheets in our guest bedroom -- I do not have high standards.

These sheets are extremely heavy, itchy, and coarse. When I first removed them from the package, I noticed how coarse they were, but assumed I just needed to wash them first. I washed them on the gentle cycle, then tumbled them on low heat with a dryer sheet. Put them on the bed, climbed in, to try them out, and it was absolute oppression! -- like lying under a painter's canvas! I removed the sheets, washed them a second time -- this time on normal -- then tumbled them on low in the dryer. Took them out, tried again -- same result.

If you enjoy soft, silky sheets (as these are advertised to be), look elsewhere!

1.0 out of 5 stars Sad, Disappointing, and Not the Same as Before....
Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2020
Size: KingColor: Indigo Navy BlueVerified Purchase
Let me preface my review by saying this: it's rare I have to say I don't like a product. Most of the time, even if it's not what I've expected, I'll just bite the bullet and work with what I was sent rather than go through the hassle of trying to return an item, and it's rare that I'll even spend the time to write a review, unless I really like the product. However, I felt like it was important to let you all know, as well as the manufacturer, what I experienced with this product. And I'm honestly heart broken.
I had previously bought these sheets about a year ago. And boy, straight out the box, did I fall in love. Due to my husband having a skin condition that we have to cater to, we have to unfortunately be very picky with the type of sheets we buy. Cotton works best, and these were exactly what I was hoping I would find. They were soft, smelled great, not too heavy (we are both hot sleepers), but works wonderfully in all seasons, and frankly, they became my favorite sheets. From day one to now, these sheets have been on my bed more than any other sheet to the point I've sewed up rips from our dogs just so that I can continue to use them. So when we updated the look of our bedroom, I was excited to buy another set. I went to my order history, found my original order, and followed the link straight to this. I was beyond thrilled they were still producing these, and as soon as I found the right color, I bought them and waited for them to come like a kid at Christmas. I was so stoked when they arrived today, and as soon as the sweet delivery driver set them at my door, I snatched them up and went to go put them on my bed.
This is where the heart break comes in. Have you ever ordered a pizza with your favorite toppings and waited a good solid 45 minutes for the driver to get there, only for you to open it and realize they put everything on there except your toppings? That's about the best way to describe how I felt. These sheets were the same sheets as I got before (except in a different color), but in what only seemed like the name alone.
The first thing I noticed is that the company must have gone through either a buyout or an image change, because the logo and the packaging were totally different. No big deal, companies do this all the time. Doesn't mean the product changes. However, when I opened the box, I noticed that these sheets seemed almost...shiny. I remember the first pair of sheets not being as shiny, but I chocked it up to that sometimes, when product sits in a warehouse, it can get a little dusty, so some companies put a...coating? of some sorts on their fabrics to make sure they don't damage. I don't know for sure if that's a thing, but that's the theory my brain came up with, so I figured, heck, why not wash it and see if it changes.
As I pulled them out of the box to do so (per the instructions given in the box), the biggest thing I noticed was that the fabrics FELT different. Now, yes, I've had my favorite set of sheets for well over a year now, and I know that as you wash things over time, they become softer and feel better (hence why vintage is the best), but I mean...these didn't even FEEL like they came from the same company. I distinctly remember being able to take the original sheets out of the plastic zipper container they were in and put them on my bed straight away and lay down to the most comfortable sheets ever. These? I pulled them out and they felt like sandpaper and plastic mixed into one. I went back and checked my order history, because I was so sure I had accidentally ordered from a different manufacturer.... Nope. Same one. I couldn't understand what had happened. Maybe they no longer were made from cotton but some polyester blend? Nope, label says 100% cotton, and so does the product description on Amazon.
There's a note on the wrapping inside the packaging instructing you to "Unlock the Softness: long wash before use." I thought that maybe they were just stiff from sitting on a shelf for so long, so I would wash them and see if anything changed. I put them in the washer and dryer using the settings recommended in the pamphlet thing they insert in the box, and after pulling them out of the dryer, the texture of the fabric didn't feel better, but seemed to actually get worse (although the shininess was gone). I washed them a second time, thinking that maybe if I wash them the way I normally wash sheets, maybe something might loosen up. Once again, a big nope. It was at this point that I decided that if I have to continuously wash an almost $50 purchase over and over again, potentially ruining the fabric in the long run by accidentally causing a rip or tear in the seam, just for it to get to the level of quality that I had previously experienced from day one with the same exact product, then it really wasn't worth my time and money. I went ahead and sent customer support an email and returned these disappointing things.
I can honestly say, I feel like I lost something today. Time? Yes. Water? Most definitely. The trust of a company that I have been hyped about for over a year? Absolutely.
Even now, I'm holding out hope that maybe, just maybe, I got a bad batch of product. Because up until today, I couldn't understand why anyone wouldn't love these sheets. But now I get all of the other one star reviews. I hope that CDD can explain what happened, and get back to the sheets I know and love. One day, maybe I'll go to a Macy's and actually feel the product to see if they still make the kickbutt sheets I fell in love with, but for now, I'll be spending my money elsewhere.
I'll update if I get a reply from CS.
