5.0 out of 5 starsMore Than What I Bargained For
Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2018
Is this forreal? For under $40? Lol. I honestly didn't know what to expect. All I knew is that I did not want just any kind of chair. I currently have 3 office-style chairs in my house that each sit at a desk. There are also a lot of fantastic, high-end, expensive desk chairs at my job that I work from. The three chairs at my home are just ok, with only one giving an overall sense of satisfaction. The ones at my job are exclusive and really comfortable to sit in. None of them are leather by the way. I happen to not be a fan of leather chairs and couches. They tend to be bulky, rough, and not so pleasant to sit in for long periods of time. I didn't want that for my new desk space.

I searched endlessly and tirelessly online for what I hoped to be a lasting chair that would provide ease, comfort, relaxation, durability, and bolstering. This chair by Furmax gets a 5/5 in every category. It took me just about 25 minutes to assemble (which is only because I'm not much of a handy tool guy). I'd say this chair takes 15 minutes tops to assemble when done precisely and correctly. The moment I sat in it, I was instantly relieved of any doubt or speculation that it wouldn't be of long-term use for me.

The seat itself, which you can see in the pics, is large, plush, and incredibly comfortable to sit on! I'm pleased every time I sit in it. I wondered if the handles would be hard when I was purchasing it, but they are actually totally relaxing while being firm enough to hold and lean on. The chair's back is quality at its finest with ultimate back support. Seating adjustment with the lever is as simple and easy as it gets, and the height just right! The wheels move smoothly and easily across my hardwood floor with absolutely no means of scratching or denting it.

This chair is total finesse! I wholeheartedly recommend it to you. It is the best of all my home desk chairs, and can even compete with the best of the high end office chairs at my job. For the price it is superb! Your entire body will appreciate you getting it this chair. Lol!!! What an awesome Furmax product. Happy buying!

Good so far. Not difficult to put together, outer packaging was trashed when I received the product, but everything inside was in good shape. Seat is a bit tight, so if you are bigger bodied it might not be the right fit as the arms are not adjustable.

Edit - on 11/26/2018 this chair exploded on me today while sitting in it. Never gave any signs of failure, but now is in multiple pieces. Two wheels broke simultaneously today leaving me in a heap of chair parts on the floor.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good chair if the seller actually listens his customer
Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2018
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
The chair sent to me the first time had misaligned drill holes at the bottom of the seat to attach the back. I complained to the seller thru his external email and sent photos of the assembled chair. The seller insisted it was an installation problem. I then submitted again thru Amazon for a refund. This is a third party seller(Furmax). The seller(maybe the same person, but under a different alias) again asked for pictures and claimed that it was an installation problem. I wrote to him that it is not an installation problem, because there are four drill holes, not two. With four holes, there are no more degrees of freedom for adjustments. I finally disassembled the chair to show him photos of the poorly drilled holes. Then he admitted it was manufacturer's fault after 2 weeks of frustration. I don't believe a customer asking for a replacement seat, should be assumed guilty until proven innocent. Very frustrating.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a $50 chair... you get what you pay for.
Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2020
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
Pros - Looks nice, low cost, seems adequate for a small to average sized person. The chair reclines comfortably, and the seat raises and lowers the smoothly.
Cons - Snug seating area for a larger person - I'm 6'3" with an athletic build - the armrests push my legs together slightly. I'd probably be uncomfortable sitting in this for an extended period. An overweight person or someone with wide hips / thighs would not like this chair.
Also, assembly is tricky. The chair back doesn't align well with the armrest attachments (see photos). You need to put everything together loosely, then force the armrests into position and try to get the screws started without stripping the threads. Because of the poor alignment, screwing them together feels like you're about to break something.
Also, for some reason, the washers are too small for one of the holes that hold the chair back in place... the washers get pulled into the hole crooked when you tighten the screws. Luckily I had some larger washers to use in addition to the ones provided. Not the greatest design.
Overall, It seems you get what you pay for. It will be sufficient for my wife or younger children to use, but I doubt it will last for more than a few years, and I would not be surprised if it breaks much sooner.

3.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to like this chair more than I liked this chair
Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2021
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
Bottom line up front: This is a $50 chair and for $50, you can't expect it's a good chair to sit in for 6 to 8 hours a day.

Bought this for a home office setup at the start of the pandemic. I finally had to get rid of it, as it was just too uncomfortable to sit in for extended periods of time.

During assembly, I needed to shift what bolts went where in the base, in order to get the arms wide enough for my seemingly enormous butt (I'm male, 5'-10", 220 lbs). I didn't think I had that large a butt, however, when assembled as directed, the arms were too tight for me to comfortably get in and out of the chair.

For the first few weeks, the chair was okay. Not great, but better than just a dining room chair appropriated for use at a flat-pack desk. But then my lower back started hurting, as did my seemingly over-sized butt. It was simply uncomfortable to sit in the chair for more than an hour at a time. The ergonomics of the chair just aren't good for sitting in it for three or more hours. If you have to sit in it every day for more than three hours, you're inviting back pain, butt pain, and just general pain.

We relocated the chair to a desk that we only use occasionally and only for an hour or so at a time. I would recommend replacing the wheels if you're going to use this chair on hardwood floors. The ones the chair ships with are not good quality and tend to mark up hardwood floors.

I replaced it with a Steelcase Series 1 chair (for *CONSIDERABLY* more money) and am MARKEDLY happier. The ergonomics on that chair (and the ability to adjust the arms, seat, etc.) make it well worth the extra expense.

You get what you pay for - this is a reasonable chair if you're going to use it an hour or two at a time, once or twice a week. If you need a good office chair for a home office, keep looking, and give a good look at the Steelcase Series 1 chair. It's what I'm using and I'm happier for the expense.

Item description states chair will accommodate a person weighing up to 265 lbs. In my opinion there's no way this is true. I'm 200 lbs. & a size 18. There's room for my hips & thighs with little to spare. It's not uncomfortable, but I dare not gain any weight. The wheels were very difficult to insert into the chair legs. My husband had to run sandpaper around the inside of the holes into which the wheels were inserted to get them to go in all the way. While this chair is not uncomfortable, it certainly isn't ergonomic. I attached a lumbar support. The company's website offers no place to register your purchase. You have to create an account & they still don't offer warranty registration. No representatives were available when I called customer support. Someone did call back two days later. This chair is good for someone who spends little time at their home desk, but not for someone who plans on spending more then an hour sitting in it. I'll keep it as long as it holds up. I don't see that as being too very long. Again, you get what you pay for.

3.0 out of 5 stars Punches above its weight (update: it gets kinda loud and buy armrest pads too)
Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2020
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
I think this is a great chair for the value, and I used it to replace an older pleather chair that was shedding all over the place.

Pros:
-Cheap
-Easy build
-Narrow profile, chair doesn't feel huge
-Mesh back means I probably won't sweat through my shirts as much this summer
-Cushion feels very nice
-Even when upholstery starts to wear, likely will not leave little shreds of materials all over my space

Cons:
-Not a lot of adjustment options; lots of slop in adjusting how far back the chair can lean
-Armrests are a little fatiguing (update: aftermarket armrest pads are a life-saver; I started to develop a scaly patch on the elbow I usually rested on, but it cleared up right after adding the pads. Highly recommend)
-If you're like me and like to rest your feet on the wheel arms, boy are those things uncomfortable on bare/stocking feet
-Update after a year: the bushing where the top of the chair sits on the metal piston is made out of plastic. Over time, this can cause a loud squealing when you shift your weight or spin. Be aware of this, and I am dinging it a star for that and the long-term issue I had with the armrests.

I think it's great for a $50 chair, and it doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart any time soon, but there are some comfort factors you might miss from a more expensive chair.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a chair. Noisy within six months. can't fit both legs on chair 'indian-style'.
Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2021

It's a chair. The user with the 'narrow' review was spot on.
I'm 5'11 and normal build, (180lbs) and this chair holds up well for it's price...
I wouldn't be too tough with it, seems like the base might be 1/2 inch mdf (kinda flexes when you lean).
on first use, the hydraulic lowered itself about 2 inches when i came back to sit after about fifteen minutes... Since working it up and down a few times, it hasn't done that again yet.

I like to sit Indian style in the chair at time, but the width makes this impossible. i can only sit with one leg tucked at a time.
basic sitting functionality for the price. get an exercise ball instead.
that being said, for a quick desk chair in a pinch this works. more than what i expected for sub $50 range.

3.0 out of 5 stars Low Cost, Poor Build
Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2020
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
This is a decent chair for around $60, I suppose, in that it can be sat on and put together. But I can't imagine myself sitting on it for long periods of time. It isn't something I'd ever want to sit on for more than a couple hours, mostly because it feels incredibly cheap but also because it isn't the most comfortable. I should mention however that I'm a bit on the heavier side and I bought this for guests, not myself. That said, what can you expect for around $60? Not a whole lot, but I'm confident that you can find better chairs in this price range in terms of comfort and ease of assembly. Unfortunately my guests they'll have to deal with it for the time being until I upgrade to a bigger, better, more expensive chair. It's worth noting, though, that you can get slightly better chairs at chains like Office Depot for a slightly higher price that are much more comfortable. I'm sure that if you're not heavy like I am or if you have teens it's probably fine.

In terms of the assembly, this thing was a hassle. All of the proper hardware was included, but the allen wrench sucked. It was equally long on both sides and that made it a pain to work with as I had to continually remove the wrench and put it back in some spots. The chair itself also sucked. The machining on the screw holes were barely where they needed to be, to the point where things have to be moved around and held in exactly the right spot to thread a screw. It's somewhat janky to say the least, but that kind of variance is common in cheaper chairs like this. The worst part of putting this thing together was the slanted screw holes for the arms. They want you to attach the arms to the back of the chair and then attach both to the seat, but the weird angle makes that very difficult. I had to take the arms off and replace them to get them to match all of the screw holes.

Next time I'll probably pay a bit more and get a more comfortable, slightly higher quality chair. If you're someone who gets frustrated building things that don't always fit, I recommend finding something a bit higher quality. If you're older and you're looking to add this to your office, I recommend a chair in the $1-200 range. Anything less seems to maintain this cheap plastic feel. Again, what can you expect for $60? It just depends on what's more important to you, quality or price. For this reviewer who spends a lot of time in his chair quality beats price every time. I don't think I would buy this again. I will update this review with information from my guests as I hear from them because I do not think this chair is meant for heavier people despite the alleged 250 pound rating.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good chair for the price but a few things to know before you buy
Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2022
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
So this is a great chair lightweight and moves around well but, I did have to buy armrest pads ($20) because after sitting in it for hours my elbows and shoulders would become very soar. Also, the seat cushion could be a lot more comfortable as it becomes flat very quickly and so I had to add an old pillow to it to stop my butt from hurting (pause) when I sat on it (pause) for long periods of time (pause).

My advice would be to spend a little more on a chair when arm cushions and a better seat cushion because you will find yourself spending money later on these upgrades.

Or maybe not.

Hope this review helps.

3.0 out of 5 stars Clank! Clank! Clank! - all day long
Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2020
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
I bought this chair for my home office. Every time I moved in the slightest bit it made this loud CLANK! noise. I used it for a bit and then switched back to my old chair. I tried working with the manufacturer to see if there was anything to be done with this and they sent me a new replacement piece. The only problem was, I have no way to install it as the center post is pressed into the piece that needs replacing so hard I can't break it free. At the end of the day this chair went in the garbage and I'm back to a clank-less existence.

It wasn't very comfortable
It felt very cheaply made, but it was a $40 chair.
If you like loud surprising noises then this might just be the chair for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars This chair is not for heavy people.
Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2020
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
I bought this chair because it was rated well on an article talking about the best desk chairs for overweight people. Boy is that article wrong. I purchased this chair at the end of April, used it for a couple weeks, then it was very light use until this past week).
I am not at the weight capacity (by 50 lbs). So the problems I am having should not be due to my weight.
I know $50 is pretty cheap for a desk chair but I expected better.
This chair squeaks...ALL THE TIME. No matter what tension settings I try to use, any weight shift causes it to squeak. And it is very loud.
The lumbar is far too low for the natural arch of my spine, and as a result I end up leaning forward all day because the backrest is so uncomfortable.
Lastly, the arm rests are too narrow and press into my thighs all day, which means by Wednesday the skin is sore.
