5.0 out of 5 starsLegit card. Legit fast.

This review is specifically for the item SanDisk Extreme 128GB microSD UHS-I Card with Adapter - 160MB/s with SanDisk MobileMate USB 3.0 microSD Card Reader. My card was shipped from and sold by Amazon.com. The top review for this card would have you believe the product I received, based on physical appearance, is fake. The speed tests and H2testw program appear to indicate it achieves the advertised speeds and has the correct capacity using the bundled USB 3.0 card reader in a USB 3.0 port on my desktop Windows 10 PC.
If this card is somehow "fake" it is quite impressive. I'm sure there are some fakes out there, but if you do decide to buy this card it might be worth performing your own tests before deeming it fake based off the looks alone (assuming it's not an incredibly obvious fake).
April 18, 2020 (13 month update): card still works great. No complaints, I'm very happy with it.

1.0 out of 5 starsEither fake or defective
Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2018
First red flag was when I looked underneath the card. Instead of being solid black like every other SD card I've seen, it looked like a green circuit board with a strange black square on it.

Second red flag was the MUCH lower than advertised read/write speeds (only 50-55 write with mid 80s read).

Third red flag was when I tried to copy data from my old sd card on to this one. I was able to get about 21.5 GB of data on to it until it unmounted itself from my computer. I then physically removed the card and inserted it back in the computer. Windows recommended that I repair the drive, so I did. After that, I go and try to copy the data again and it unmounted itself, just like before. I tried the same thing by repairing the drive, except this time, Windows informs me that it could not be repaired! Seriously??

So much for trying to get a good black Friday deal...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fast enough to use as extra storage on Surface Pro 6 but not as fast as expected
Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2018
Style: Card OnlyCapacity: 128GBVerified Purchase
The built-in SSD disk space is extremely expensive on the Surface Pro 6, so getting the smallest Surface Pro 6 and using a microSD card to complement the built-in storage is an attractive option in my opinion.
The good thing is that this card performs well when inserted in the microSD card reader of the Surface Pro 6 (about 80 MB/s sequential read, 80 MB/s sequential write) although it does not reach the advertised speed (which is "up to" 160 MB/s sequential read, 90 MB/s sequential write).
As I believe the UHS-1 standard is limited to 104 MB/s anyway I am not sure if it is possible to find microSD cards that would perform faster.
In short a good choice for the Surface Pro 6 even if possibly not the best choice.

Read/write speeds were 70/50 mp/s on my S9. Much slower than the max of 160/90. Opted for the Extreme Plus instead, more expensive but read/write speeds are 100+/80

3.0 out of 5 stars Review for MobileMate USB 3.0 Reader only
Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2018

The reviews for the 3.0 card reader and the actual microSD card seemed to be mixed up. I also have the microsd card and it works fine in my DJI Osmo Pocket. No read errors or storage problems. Just be aware that the Reader does not have a "push to remove" feature. Also the design for the reader has a small curved bulge that covers one side of the protruding end of the microsd card. Wow, that last sentence confused even me. What it means is that you can't hold both sides of the card to pull it out, so you'll need tweezers.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is OK but it does have an annoying quirk...
Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2021
Style: Card OnlyCapacity: Card ReaderVerified Purchase
I bought this for using with micro-SD cards (obviously). I didn't need anything fancy. I just wanted something that was small and something that works. This fits the bill on both counts. I also didn't want to pay a fortune. So I passed over some that were more expensive or larger.

The only issue I've really had with this thing is that if you handle it a lot, the card will sort of lose contact with the adapter inside somehow and when you plug it into a USB port, you get nothing. It is not hard to make this happen either. I pulled this out of a USB port one day and put it back in about a minute later and it didn't show up as expected. I pulled it out again, pushed on the card to make sure it was in securely and then re-inserted the reader into the USB port and it showed up.

So it's not hard to get it to work again if it loses contact but obviously, it shouldn't do that when you're just gently handling it. When it does happen, it doesn't even feel like the card is even slightly lose so it obviously is a fault that happens with very little movement.

I did not buy this thing for the speed and haven't tested it. I don't need it to be really fast as I just dump relatively files that I need to take with me on it.

In conclusion, I can't really recommend this very highly. There are probably better options for not that much more money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enables read speed at 160MB/s for latest microSD but gets hotter too soon, slows down to 75MB/s
Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2022
Style: Card OnlyCapacity: Card ReaderVerified Purchase
Finally, I found a faster USB microSD device that allows to get access to highest transfer speed on my Galaxy Book Pro 360, reading from 160 until 175 MB/S and writting on it at a rate around 95 MB/s. My supposed sturdy UNI high quality aluminum USB 3.0 reader that I bought here at Amazon was not capable to read beyond 85 MB/s. So, rule of thumb, if you want to gain full speed and capacity from your microSD, please consider use a well named brand. My older reader was fine until I realize that it was not capable to read beyond 85 MB/s because I got an Extreme Pro card that was limited by such reader. I bought the same Sandisk's original brand reader and it makes the trick. Even first reading speed indicates 345 MB/s for few seconds stabilizing at 163 MB/s rate.
All was love until I started to use it seriously, it gets too hot at first minute and decrese transfer speed from 160Mb/s to 76 Mb/s. So, you cannot take vantage of the specified transfer speed on expensive cards.
I was transferring 200 Gb of videos I created and it slows down the transfer speed in next 30 secs, I felt the card reader getting too hot and that's the reason high end card readers are made of aluminum, to dissipate hot efficiently. Now challenge is find a good one. I tried multiple card readers on Amazon but none has been able to reach constant transfer speed above 75 MB/s. So, make your bets after this review

3.0 out of 5 stars Card Great! Adapter? A problem.
Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2022
Style: Card OnlyCapacity: 256GBVerified Purchase
Tried to figure out the best way to review this 'cause, like the majority of people have pointed out, the actual card itself is great. Huge capacity and fast . . . everything it's advertised to be. The problem I've had is with the adapter . . . the tiny little sliding lock on the side of the adapter doesn't "lock." What I mean by that is that it's free-flowing without and indentation for it to stay locked or unlocked. Because of this, almost every time you slide it into a computer, camera, recording device, etc., it automatically locks the card so that you can't record onto it. It's exasperating and exhausting to try and get it loaded AND unlocked at the same time. Maybe mine's defective but it's really annoying and, quite a few times, I've been unable to use the card 'cause of the adapter.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the advertised speeds. Read the review.

I like this SD card but it's far from the numbers that it claims. Read and write speeds are around 98MB/s
and 4K files read speeds are 8.07 max and 2.5MB/s write speed,
In comparison I purchased the PNY micro SD card same capacity same test same adapter same everything
and as you can see it's outperforming the sandisk by a considerable margin especially at the 4K files
and it costs $10 less. Would I recommend this to a friend? Absolutely not because why get the sandisk
when they can save $10 and get a better PNY card that outperforms this one in every department?
This is why my review's getting 3 stars. At least PNY say their speeds are ~100MB/s and that's exactly what you get with them. This Sandisk BOASTS 160MB/s Read speeds and that's not true at all especially if you're reading 4K files. You might get 2.5MB/s then.

3.0 out of 5 stars All SD cards degrade
Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2022

I put this microSD card into my phone about 3 to 4 years ago. Worked fine until I started noticing pictures I took in the past couple weeks were corrupted. I couldn't view them. So I backup whatever pictures and videos I had in the past 3 years. Then I try reformat the card using the phone. It says card is corrupted. I try to format the card on my PC. It too say card is corrupted. Word of advice: don't count on SD cards lasting forever. Whatever you have saved on your phone, take the time to save into a computer and in a backup drive. Good thing most of my old pictures and videos were ok.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kinda slow for a card reader but still pretty compact
Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2022
Style: Card OnlyCapacity: Card ReaderVerified Purchase
Most of the reviews here are for the cards and not the reader

Just for comparison, I was able to transfer a large file using the same class 10 card UHS-1 within 58 seconds using a faster card reader (UHS-1 grade, USB 3.0)

but when using this card reader, with the same card, it took 1 minute 12 seconds to transfer the same file (read)

so I think there is some speed penalties with this being so compact

oh well, easy to carry and one of the most compact so use it for lesser missions critical applications

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard to get SD cards in and out plus other issues

Easy to plug into USB
Easy to get SD card into the device.

Hard to get this thing to show up on your computer, Plug in, pull out, try a different port, push in more.. Finally it's working.

Hard to get SD card backout, You really got to dig at the SD card to get it to let the thing go which worries me when these cards are expensive. Now imagine you got a few dozen of these things to go though. It can wear on your fingers.

The Usb is only maybe 7-10mbs faster than a standard micro sd card converter.

Personally I don't recommend, the design needs to be improved.
