How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsProbably the best Monk Fruit Extract
Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2019
I've tried many monk fruit sweeteners, from pure monk fruit, blends, and extracts at different % Mogroside. This extract is consistently the same sweetness and taste (not much taste) each time, plus it's organic. Almost every blend I've tried does work well in coffee or tea. Every pure 100% monk fruit sweetener seems to change taste batch to batch, some will be wonderful and another batch will be awful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scoop is about 1/32 tsp 3/16 tsp for 1/4 cup sugar used in baking
Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2020

I use it for baking
I found the scoop was about 1/32 tsp. I use 3/16 tsp as a substitue for 1/4 cup sugar (12 tsp).
That means I have approx 70 times for baking with the above mention sugar substitute

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sweetner!
Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2019

I was definitely not looking for this sweetener in such a small quantity with such a small little scoop to deliver such SWEETNESS! What a delightful surprise! My husband and I have been avoiding sugar and have tried several alternatives to the conventional cane sugar. Erythritol caused me sever abdominal discomfort and Stevia extract, although good for me, left an "aftertaste" for my husband. Monk Fruit is perfect for both of us. I make a mean coleslaw dressing calling for 1/4 cup of sugar and used this in place of the sugar for our Easter Dinner. No one knew the difference and all I used was one and a half of the tiny scoops to get the desired sweet taste. This will be a pantry staple for me going forward. It's expensive but VERY worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars 100% organic monk fruit - no fillers

most all the monk fruit you can purchase is either diluted with maltodextrin, xylitol or erythritol. this is 100% monk fruit - it only takes a pinch to sweeten anything. This will last you a year. !!

4.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but...

I've tried several different brands of monk fruit extracts and this one is the sweetest according to my taste buds Other brands are cheaper but you need TWICE as much to get the same sweetness as this one.. I would give it a five star rating except for the price

3.0 out of 5 stars Just ok
Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2020

Of course, this is a matter of preference, but personally I think that this sweetener is just ok. I got this to use for tea and coffee, which I like pretty sweet.

With tea, I’d say it sweetens rather well, but there is definitely a bitter aftertaste. It’s not anywhere near as bad as the liquid version from this brand, but it’s still there.

I mix my tea in a one quart carafe, and I use 1/4 tsp of monkfruit plus 1 tbsp of honey. I feel like the honey gets it to the right sweetness without the extra bitterness from using more monkfruit. I still don’t love it, but it’s fine and better than it was when I was using straight monkfruit. I think I may be able to acquire a taste for it after a while. I was hoping to avoid any added calories in my tea, but this at least helps me to cut down. I feel like a bit of lemon may help as well, but I haven’t been able to try it yet.

For coffee, this just doesnt work for me. For some reason, I can’t taste the sweetness no matter how much I add. Lakanto monkfruit sweetener, which is mostly just Erythritol with a bit of monkfruit, seems to work better for coffee. To be fair, I am used to using a lot of sugar, so I may not be able to detect the sweetness as well as someone who doesn’t consume much sugar. I’m gradually cutting back on the sweetness in my coffee, so maybe I can get to the point where this monkfruit powder works for me. I’ll update this review if I do get to that point or if I find anything that helps make this monkfruit more palatable.

5.0 out of 5 stars tasty!

pros: tasty! doesn't spike insulin. potent.

cons: i wish the container were smaller for on-the-go. otherwise, love it--i don't miss sugar!

pro tip: start with FAR less than you think you need. you can always add more + yet probably won't need to. it's HIGHLY concentrated flavor.

1.0 out of 5 stars Arrived nearly empty
Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2021

I ordered this tiday. It arrived today, and I was shocked to find a nearly empty bottle. NOW Foods has been a brand I trusted, but this experience changes that. From reading the reviews (which I clearly should have done before ordering), I can see I'm not alone.

For reference, the bottle claims to have 474 servings, each of which is a tiny scoop. The amount in the bottle I received looks like it could be 30-40 of these, maximum.

Please use caution when considering this product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed

I did the math.

Real granulated sugar 0.06 cents per ounce (3.79 for 4 pounds in my local area).
Now Brand - Stevia Extract cost 3.11 per ounce
Now Brand - Monk Fruit Extract 31.79 per ounce - 10.22 times the cost of Stevia or 508.64 per pound

Yes, it indeed has an aftertaste just like Stevia. No BS, it does. I found that I had to use more Monk Fruit extract product to have the same level of sweetness as the Stevia extract. So, umm, what's the point?
No, it won't last you as long as Stevia extract. I have purchase 1 lb Stevia bags every 14 months and this Monk Fruit isn't going to last more than a month.

Also the shaker it comes in has very large holes which make the shaker container useless. This product needs to be moved to another shaker with finer holes otherwise you can shake out $22 of Monk Fruit extract in one go. Or you can dig out the include tiny spoon, eye roll, and snort it.

I am afraid I'll have to either keep using stevia or use the Monk Fruit sweeteners with the fillers because the extract is outrageously expensive.
