A big win for my extremely aggressive chewer!

As a former vet tech, rescuer and pup momma I've come across some chewers that take the cake. Of course, one of my own is the worse of the worst. My monster lab/poodle mix can DESTROY just about anything I buy for him . He snaps the ultra kongs in half without blinking and will crack even the largest Nylabones within a few minutes. Even toys marketed as indestructible with money back warranties fall to their death in his jaws. That said .... HE LOVES THIS BONE and hasn't managed to do much damage to it which makes it one of the best chew toys I've ever encountered.

BROKEN TEETH - Please read!

WARNING! PLEASE READ!

TLDR: These bones caused slab fractures in both of my dog's teeth I now have a $1300.00 vet bill and two samoyeds in a lot of pain.

I bought these bones as they have a very high rating, I thought I was doing my research well and making the right decision for my dogs. I do not give them any other type of bones; and 6 months later when I took them to the vet this is what they said:

The bones are too hard and even though they deteriorate as they chew on them the damage is done, both dogs have slab fractures in their molars and need to have them removed.

Mind you my one dog is only 3 and now has no top molars thanks to these bones, I feel like a terrible dog parent and do not want this to happen to anyone else. While the dogs do like these, the end result was pain and an extremely high vet bill. PLEASE USE WITH CAUTION, I recommend NOT AT ALL.

Do NOT suggest for super chewers

I’m honestly so sad to say that we have had to stop purchasing these for our super chewer dachshund. He has been chewing on these for months (we’ve replaced them five times now) but the small pieces have started to accumulate in his stomach and rectum, causing chronic vomiting and eventually a blockage (requiring an expensive ER visit). Our vet told us to stop purchasing the product all together because the pieces are irritating our dog’s digestive tract.

I would absolutely suggest these to non-super chewers. They were our last hope for our pup but unfortunately we will have to move on.

I bought these in hopes to get my 11 month pitbull something he can chew on that would have durability. I saw the good reviews and thought what’s the harm. I never give my dog anything to chew unsupervised no matter how safe it seems. So I gave it to him and went to sit down where I could see him. At about 5 minutes or less of him chewing I took it away from him to check it and to my horror it had blood on it, so I quickly checked his teeth and his upper canine teeth wasn’t cracked or chipped– thank god– but his gum was bleeding and it was clear he had hurt it. My dog really loved the toy even thought I put it away in his toy bin and gave him another toy he would go back and grab the bone until I had to hide it. And I’m honestly not sure if I’ll let him use it again I’m kind of scared it’ll injure him further. I’ve seen the reviews of half chewed up bones and other dog owners saying their dogs had loved it I’m not sure if this happened to them too, so all I can really say is buy at your own risk and just keep an eye on your baby while he’s chewing anything.

Durable but not good for a dogs teeth

These are extremely durable and up until yesterday, my three dogs would spend a good amount of time each day chewing on these things. I took two of my dogs to the vet yesterday for an annual visit and he asked me if they were chewing on something hard because the tips of a few of their rear teeth were worn down or broken off. I told him the only thing I see them chew on consistently are these Benebones. He instructed me to find something different and softer because one or the other would happen; the thing they chew on will dissolve or the thing they chew with will dissolve.

Be careful - my dog swallowed chunks of this

Please be careful with these and ALWAYS supervise your dogs with any toys. We've been getting our dogs (a German Shepherd and a smaller shepherd mix) nylabones for several years now and have never had an issue. A friend of mine with 2 pitbulls and a giant bulldog recommended the Benebone, so I picked up two for Christmas gifts. The dogs loved them... but it's been less than 4 weeks and last night my German shepherd broke off a chunk that was about half the size of a golfball. I threw it and both bones into the trash. This morning she vomited up three more smaller chunks, maybe nickel and dime sized. So yeah, these are a no-go for us. My smaller dog didn't seem to have an issue, so maybe these are ok for dogs that aren't power chewers. Either way, please be careful. Like I said we have never had this issue with nylabones, so we are going back to those.

I give this a 2 because both of my dogs loved it. I have a Lab and a Border Spaniel. Both large dogs and both can be aggressive chewers. When the first bone arrived Monday afternoon they fell in love. To the point I had to quickly order another one because of the fights over who got to chew on it. The 2nd bone arrived on Thursday. About 8 that night my Lab started wheezing like he couldn't catch his breath. I checked his mouth and nothing I could see. This happened twice in about 30 minutes. He was chewing on the new bone. About an hour later our female threw up her breakfast in my office. They woke me up 5 times between 11 and 7 to go outside, literally dancing at the front door. The ONLY change in their diet has been these bones. They are both happy healthy dogs and this whole experience is extremely out of character for both of them and upsetting to me. The bones quickly went up out of sight. I don't know if it was something ON the 2nd bone, as they were passing them back and forth, or if it's something in the ingredients but I'm not about to take the chance. Bones are going in the trash.

After seeing the reviews, I thought my male German Shepherd would love this bacon flavored big bone chew! I immediately pulled it out of the package, he was excited! I held it to him. He sniffed, sniffed, and sniffed finally taking it in his mouth. Took a few steps, and dropped it. Has absolutely left it alone since. I grabbed it a few times, tried to get him interested in it by playing with him with it, and just holding it for him. To no avail this turned out to be a great big $10+ waste of money. Which unfortunately for me is kind of a big deal at this point in time, but I wanted to get my best friend, loyal companion, and son a gift for Christmas. He really has zero interest in it, first time I've ever seen him turn down a bacon flavored/bacon smelling, chew of any sort. So from Valor and I this chew/Christmas present turned out to be a huge dud!

I have been very disappointed in these because of the fine ratings and reviews posted by others. We found them to be too hard for our Beagle to keep working on. They are almost rock hard and got very rough where he worked on them day and night and day and night for over a week at a time till we just took them away from him and finally threw all of them in the trash. He loved the flavor, but we were afraid he would actually break a tooth on them as they were so hard and rough on the ends after he worked on them. I even tried to and them back to smoothness but was unable to do so satisfactorily. I guess they must be made for Bull Mastiffs or Great Danes or other very large dogs with huge teeth, not for Beagles.

My Pyrenees love these. They last for days, weeks even and are very safe, very durable. Unfortunately, they are hair magnets. If you know Pyrenees, they shed *all* the time. The hair gets all twisted on the area that have been gnawed on. You have to constantly wrangle the hair off the bones. My dogs love them so much that I am going to keep yanking the hair and rinsing the bones until it is time to throw them out. I won't buy them again though. Too much work with the hair!

If it smelled like bacon, maybe my dog would actually touch it but my dog will not even pay even the slightest bit of attention to it at all! I am sure it is durable and I am sure it would do whatever it says it would do but my dog depends more on taste/smell of a bone (and she will take on a bone twice her size if the appeal is there for her but it just isn’t with this bone). I have tried my best to make her engage the bone and chomp down but she treats it like a useless piece of nylon just sitting there! She has loved Nylabone name brands products in the past but she just isn’t going for this for some reason! No taste nor smell..guess the “bacon” wore off of this one!! I cannot even really rate the categories below with stars bc my dog just is not that into this bone....AT ALL!!!

Based on the reviews of this product, and the fact that my dog loves bacon, I purchased this in hopes he would be happy with a long-lasting too. He loves to chew but wanted absolutely nothing to do with this product. We finally cut a small piece out of it and then you could smell I'm what I suppose is bacon. He chewed it for about 1 minute and walked away. I don't know if these things age and I got an old one or what, but he just won't do it. I am sad I wasted $11, but at least I know not to try the others now. This ended up the same as any other plastic chew.
