How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 stars Honest Opinion

Okay so I've seen 100 reviews on this device before buying and these are the legitimate points after having it that you can decide if you want it
-heart rate resting is accurate, active heart rate may be off
-sleep tracking is decent and gives a realistic result, make sure to tighten the watch for most accurate rating
- Bixby may not be the best but it has better features
- very good looking watch for going out or casual events, better than apple watches
-very useful for notifications as it has the images from youtubr notifications
-get use to the interface, once you adapt, it's awesome

1.0 out of 5 stars After 3 months of normal use, the back cover came off and Samsung won't cover with warranty
Reviewed in Canada on August 17, 2020

I got this watch in May, and I thought it was decent enough. My previous watch was a Pebble Steel, so I was used to a different watch experience entirely (much longer battery life, but not much for sensors). The battery lasted about 2-3 days. I was enjoying this watch, but I absolutely cannot recommend it because 3.5 months after I got it, when I removed it one day, the back cover came off.

I contacted Samsung Support and they said it was physical damage and not covered by warranty. I looked online and this is not an uncommon problem, and it's also unfortunately, not uncommon for Samsung to totally deny warranty coverage for it.

I never got this watch wet (other than sweat) and treated it very carefully, as it was the most expensive smartwatch (or any watch really) I'd ever purchased.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great product but not durable
Reviewed in Canada on June 26, 2020

I've had the watch for a month and a half. I like most features, and it usually works well and seems to do an ok job at tracking all sorts of health related things. Unfortunately, it is already damaged... The paint has started to fall of the body of the watch on the first day, after 2 weeks I had lost most of the coating on half of my bracelet (doesn't really look damaged but feels weird : kinda sticky) and without even realizing it, the screen was scratched a few days ago... I expect that kind of damage to happen after some time, but not that quickly and not that easily.

Pros:

+Looks good. Very elegant and sleek (as a smartwatch can be). Many many free watch faces to choose from and a lot more if you're willing to pay.

+Size : big enough to see clearly but small enough for my tiny wrist.

+Comfortable. Felt a bit bulky at first but I quickly got accustomed to it and now I barely realize it's there.

+Functionalities: can do a lot of things and usually works well. The tracking isn't great but it seems as acruate as the other fitness trackers in that price range.

+Notifications: stopped working for no reason once (restarted both watch and phone) but usually it's great. I like that I can get notifications from any apps I have and choose which ones I'll get.

+Calls and text messages: writing text messages can be hard on the small screen but it's definitely doable. I love that I can make calls directly from the watch.

+Costumizable widgets. (Fav: alarms, contacts, apps, SmartThings, water consumption...)

+Water and night mode.

+The screen is gorgeous, I keep the luminosity at 4 and can always see really well, even in direct sunlight

Cons:

-Biggest con: Durability... which really saddens me.

-SmartThings : the widget can be really slow.

-The battery life is short but at least it lasts for more than 24 hours, allowing me to track my sleep.

-Apps : most 3rd party apps don't work really well but it's still really nice to have them available. I can only imagine it's gonna get better as the market for smartwatches evolves.

-Bixby : it doesn't always understand and it doesn't do much but I've heard it improved greatly.

Overall I love the product and even the cons aren't really bothering me. Unfortunately the durability makes me so worried that I was thinking about returning the product and would think twice before buying electronics from Samsung again...

About the seller (Canadian smart tech) : I contacted them regarding the damage on my watch. I wasn't expecting much but they offered to replace it. The communication was a bit off and they didn't answer my questions at first but I received the replacement quickly. Here's where I felt let down : they sent me a damage product (even though I had bought a "like new" product) and I believe they knew about it. When I contacted them, asking to get another one, they asked me if I wanted that or a partial refund. I told them I'd rather have a "new" one and they said they didn't have any in stock. All of those events (the damage, being out of stock...) are perfectly understandable and it was lovely of the seller to offer both a partial refund and even a return, but I would have liked to be told the truth first instead of losing my time with all that hassle.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's not actually waterproof

I am currently working on switching all of my devices from Apple to Samsung and spent quite a bit of time making the decision to get the watch that I did. I am a swimmer, and specifically purchased this watch for the purpose of swimming. I purchased an Active 2 watch from Amazon on February 20 and am having issues with it after getting it wet during hand washing. I am now concerned this was the wrong decision if it isn't able to handle splashes from a sink.

I have reached out to Samsung directly for assistance, and after 20 minutes of figuring out which exact model I had, they basically told me I could ship it to a service centre to pay for repair, and that water damage would not be covered.

Otherwise, the product is amazing. The battery truly lasts a couple of days, so you can track sleep AND fitness (I had to choose one or the other with the Apple watch).

1.0 out of 5 stars Heart rate alerts do not work
Reviewed in Canada on July 16, 2020

First active 2 that I got produced inaccurate readings. So, amazon sent me a replacement. Replacement seemed to work fine but didn't do basic alerting job when it had to do. my wife's heart rate was 150+ for more than 30 minutes and it didn't produce any alert. I had set up alerting as per samsung's technote by enabling "Continuous monitoring" and setting up High HR and low HR settings. She was sitting at one place all the time. It should have produced some alert. by the time ambulance came and she was in good hands. We were relying on this watch to alert us if her heart rate had gone up during sleep. Thank god we came to know about capability of Samsung's garbage during day time. I would call this an expensive watch a piece of garbage.. doesn't do what samsung promises. sending it back to amazon.

Considering the good looks and all I think price of this shouldn't be more than 150$. I should have gone with apple watch 5 in the first place.. it actually saves life as heard from various apple users.

I understand this is not for medical purposes but it doesn't do what they promise and I bought it after checking with samsung chat support on samsung's website and was promised that it would work.

I bought it mainly for complex interval timing with Timerro and exercise and sleep tracking and have used it with Galaxy S8.
I've found it to be adequate for all purposes so far.

It is small and light and comfortable to wear for long hours including while sleeping.

Its vibration strength which is crucial for interval timing is quite good. It is also more precise than Ticwatch C2 that would muddle up consecutive vibrations unless they were at least 2 seconds apart while this can just about separate vibrations that are 1 second apart too. Ticwatch also had issues with randomly missing some interval change vibrations with Timerro unless screen was always on. Haven't had that issue with this one so far.

Its speaker volume which is used for guided notifications during exercise tracking is quite loud and mostly audible over ambient noise while cycling even with earbuds in one ear except in heavy traffic.
Haven't used it for calls so far but did test its mic quality with voice notes and it seemed to be surprisingly good – almost indistinguishable from the main mic in S8 itself.

Battery life and charge times seem quite good - I only charge for 15 -30 minutes two or three times a day and it never seems to go below 75%.

My only minor gripes are with its software ad hope they will be fixed in future updates:

1. It is far too easy to have accidental interactions with the watch and the only way to disable screen touches while the wearing the watch is through the water lock feature and that is somewhat annoying to turn off with its water shake sound.
Tried screen block app but that only works when screen is turned on manually and not when it happens by an app.
Timerro turns on screen on every interval change and I've found it nearly inevitable for it to get accidentally paused unless water lock is enabled. Would be really handy to have easier way to lock/ unlock screen.

2. I need to have Timerro running continuously for hours which for some reason always leads to an annoying battery draining notification that cannot be disabled and isn't easy to dismiss. Timerro doesn't even consume much battery - maybe 10% over 4 hours. Would be nice to have the option to disable it.

3. Samsung health app used to turn on the screen on every guided notification in addition to audible status updates but that no longer happens after a recent update. This can be annoying when watch is not audible due to ambient noise or headsets.

I bought this watch for my wife, who did have a Fit-bit she liked and she is absolutely thrilled with it. The features and variety of options is great, especially for fitness tracking with the Samsung Health app. Battery life could be better; recharging seems to be required every 1.5 days. I also have a Galaxy watch I am very happy with, but the one compliant I have is that the Galaxy watches are very bad at tracking floors climbed. Since we are not very interested in that feature all is good here!

I got the watch on a warehouse deal cause I couldn't justify spending msrp on one. It came well packaged and in immaculate shape. Very easy to setup and it works well, very intuitive. My only complaint is the battery life and charging, on a full charge it lasts about 18 hours with the always on display on which if you buy a watch that's kinda the one thing it should do well. This wouldn't be so bad if charging didn't take 2 hours to get to 100% from 0%. Watch strap wore out in a month on mine so I bought a metal one for like $20. Overall I wish I would have bought the larger 44mm one with more battery life but this thing has come in handy for when my phone is on the charger or out of reach
