4.0 out of 5 starsNot as good as the Original M705 (v1)
Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2021
This is not the same as the "original M705". It is version 2. If you never had the original, you may not care. The ergonomics are still great and it has a good weight to it.
If you are replacing an older "v1" M705, there are a few differences that, while minor, you may not like either. Picture shows one of the differences (new on the left, old on the right). Size is the same, it's just the perspective that makes the new one look bigger. Differences are:
1 - the skates have changed. They are not as "smooth". Also, there are 2 in the front instead of one long skate. These are definitely louder than the old version.
2 - the scroll wheel is louder. Not a huge deal and it may get quieter with time... But it was disappointing to spin.
3 - there is no button on the side panel where the thumb sits. This was a nice addition that came in handy when mapped.

This is still my favorite feeling mouse, and I plan on using this one until it does like my other (which suffered with the "ghost doubleclicks" at the end...) I will just miss the old features.
It is my own fault I didn't look more closely at model numbers when purchasing, I shouldnt have assumed it stayed the same.

1.0 out of 5 starsUnbelievably Poor Quality
Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2020
Having used Logitech products for years, when I saw (and felt) the absurdly poor quality of this mouse, I have a difficult time believing it is a legitimate Logitech product. The two mouse buttons are nothing more that petals of plastic hovering our in space above the contact switches underneath. As such, these plastic petals move loosely, both vertically and horizontally, without their contacting the switches below.

As such, the two petals of plastic (buttons, if you can call them that) can interfere with, and hang up on, each other as seen in my attached pictures. Even if they didn't do this, the feel of the button travel is horrible. As you press on a button, it first travels a certain distance down before it even makes contact with its switch below. Once contact is finally made, button travel continues further until you actually click the switch below.

Use your imagination to picture the cheapest made, worst button action, mouse you believe to be manufactured and it is a fairly safe bet that this mouse is worse. Again, I seriously cannot believe that this mouse is a legitimate Logitech product. I cannot emphasize enough the degree to which you should steer clear of purchasing this item.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still a good mouse, though a bit less than it used to be.

Finally had to replaced my M705 mouse that I have had for many years.
The new one works good, still one of the best in my opinion.
The differences between the two are obvious. though.
The new version is very noticeably lighter.
Makes me wonder if that is a good thing, only time will tell.
It is also a bit smaller, luckily not too much though. I have large hands and it still fits well.
Just not as well.
I've noticed, as many others have also, that Logitech is definitely getting cheaper with their products.
That's too bad as they were always loved for superior workmanship in their price range.
I hope, in this case, that it doesn't hurt the M705 mouse.
( I am going to take the older one apart, and clean the left switch that is intermittent.)

4.0 out of 5 stars This is not my mouse.

I have used an original Marathon mouse, and I don't mean prior to 2018, I mean I bought this very mouse in 2014 (for 20$ at a Costco no less)
Why am I getting a replacement? The dredded double click has only gotten worse these past few months. My mouse has had over 8000 hours of World of Warcraft, gone through high school and my first two years of college, outlived 3 different laptops and has not only been tossed around but traveled to over 6 states on vacations and survived 2 moves. I replaced the batteries in it for only the 3rd time since its purchase and this mouse has been nothing but incredible to me.
I just received my "new" one today, and I can tell, this is not my mouse. I've used it for 6 hours in both searching the web and some WoW.
With my original being almost a decade old I think I can say that the quality on the original is tenfold of the quality on this new one. The feel is different, the original is smooth and made of a shiny plastic whereas the new one has a matte finish and not as smooth of a surface (Im talking about the top of the mouse, to move your hand in adjustment isn't smooth so I have found myself letting go and then moving fingers rather than just sliding my hand further up on the mouse).
The biggest complaint I see from people is the pads on the bottom, but I had a lot of issues with the ones on my original so having them be plastic is a better deal for me. I do not have a mouse pad and have never used one, so the rubbery ones have had to be superglue back in place a few times from rubbing on the desk. You can still pull the new ones off to get to the screws, but I never had luck trying to fix physical issues with my mouse anyway.
The scroll wheel is similar, but different. I dont know how to describe it exactly, but I had to download the software to turn on "smooth scrolling" because what is supposed to be a free scrolling wheel would zoom down the page and slowly scroll back up, which I found to be really obnoxious. Similarly, the new mouse was a lot slower out of the package and I had to get the software download to change the cursor speed to near max just to have a comparable speed to what I am used to. So these mice are not even comparable out of the box, as I have never used the Logitech software on my original mouse.
The most interesting change to me is that the new mouse is 5 grams lighter. I think this can be attributed to the thumb rest on the new one being a lot thinner and more of just a plastic piece than an actual thumb rest like the original. Not only that, but the majority of weight seems to be at the scroll wheel with the new mouse and at end of the mouse in the original (different center of gravity? I don't know, but it feels like I'm moving it with my fingers rather than moving it with my palm). Either this is due to the factory batteries being smaller in the new versus my replacements in the old or the guts of the mouse have been changed/moved, either way this is a weird change which has thrown me off a little.
I honestly never thought they still made this mouse and I would have to try something new (which I have never been all that good at, hence the original one is 8 years old) which is why I have waited so long to find a new mouse. While this is not my mouse and it never will be, it is the closest replacement I can get, and that is why I give it a 4 star.

TL;DR:
The original is a lot smoother to the touch, has more thumb support, requires no configuration to mouse settings for regular use, and is made of quality plastic.
The new version lacks a decent thumb rest, requires configuration to mouse settings in order to be usable, is lighter and has a more central center of gravity, and lacks a thumb button.
Both are very responsive, use the same scrolling feature, can be programmed, and have the same shape.
I cannot attest to battery life, longevity, or other features as I have used the same original mouse for around 8 years and the new one for only 6 hours.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointed
Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2021

I was looking forward to getting my new M705 to replace my aging M705 which I have enjoyed. This new M705 Marathon Performance Plus mouse advertises "7 customizable buttons" which is what my old M705 Marathon mouse has. It only has 5, unless you count swapping the left and right mouse buttons which I have no idea why someone would do that with aby-design right handed mouse. The lower thumb grip button is no longer there and it was the one I used most. The software that I used with my old M705 won't even work with the new one.

The buttons you can customize do allow for a wide range of functions or key combinations. You can also set up the same buttons for specific key combinations for specific applications A button that might be 'ctl-v' in a document editor to paste might be 'esc' in another application. This can be a little frustrating if you don't realize which application is the active one and your mouse is on another screen and you expect the button to perform it the application is is hovering over. I try to keep mine so some relatively basic system functions like volume up and volume down.

I do still very much like the feel of the mouse under my hand. It keeps my hand in a nice ergonomic position as I know my wrists are slightly rotated when I am using the mouse the same way they are when using my ergonomic keyboard. The mouse moves smoothly. Scrolling is smooth. You can press the button behind the scroll wheel and to go between smooth rolling of the wheel or engage the detents to give a more consistent scroll rate. I prefer the detents, as my experience is without it the mouse will sometimes scroll a bit more putting you slightly off the mark of where you were wanting to be. Free wheeling is nice if you need scroll a long way up or down in a document because you can give the wheel a good push and it will scroll.

For me what little bit of negative there is doesn't make me want to return it. Just a little disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Second m705 I have owned

2 Week Update
--------------------------
The lightness of the updated model is kind of annoying. It is too easy to bypass what you are intending to click on even with the accuracy setting turned on.

The bold logitech logo is too prominent for my liking but I am not looking at it while I am using it.

I find it easier to use than the logitech trackball mouse which I was using for a little bit to see which I liked better for my daily driver. I have chosen this as my default mouse. I no longer use the keyboard that came with the original mouse, or vice versa.

I still like it better than the 510 though, I really do like that mouse too. This one is just more comfortable to use.

Original Review:
--------------------------
I replaced my old m705 that came in a keyboard mouse combo, with a new one because the left click started double clicking, is notorious with logitech mouse products. All their lines.

My default go to mouse was the m510.. I love the m510... Then I tried the m705 and it was like it was meant for my hand. Is much lighter and easier to manipulate than the m510. Though it is a little more expensive for me it is worth it.

I took the batteries out of the m510 and it still was heavy, the batteries didn't really change much with the weight. The m705 though, the batteries kind of hold it down...

I am on my 3rd or 4th mouse of this same model. One I dropped and broke, another got lost in a move, but it was an extra one that I used for work. Now this one which works as it should. The plastic does not seem as good and had problems trying to use the same USB adapter that came with my old mouse. Every one of these I have had gets great battery life. I tend to use 2 AA rechargable batteries and I get 6-8 months between charges. With working at home the past 9 months, I swap out sets about every 6 months, still not bad!

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent mouse for the price, not ergo friendly though
Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2022

The Logitech M705 is a decent mouse. The build quality feels better than other brands in this price point that I have tried but it's obviously not as great as their flagship MX Master series. It works perfectly fine for general use and productivity. This is not a gaming mouse by any means. As for the ergonomics of it, the slight angle that it sits at is supposed to relieve pressure on the wrist more so than "traditional" mice, however I don't notice any difference. Placing my hand on a traditional mouse vs. this one and I don't see/feel any difference in the angle at which my hand/wrist lay. It's not bad, it just doesn't feel different than a regular mouse. My only complaint is the scroll wheel option. You can press the button for a "clicky" scroll where you can feel each "bump" as you scroll the wheel or depress it for a smooth experience. I like the smooth roll but when lifting the mouse slightly to reposition it on the desk it's enough motion for the webpage or document you're working on to suddenly scroll. This could just be an issue with my mouse, your mileage may vary.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great mouse, takes some getting used to. Needs software to change the button functions.
Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2022

Bought this mouse after my my Logitech Anywhere MX bit it after many many years. The right click got stuck and I was getting phantom left clicks even when not touching it. I searched through the Logitech listings for any good, large mice that use AA batteries. I don't want built in rechargeables, I want rechargeables that I can swap myself. The Marathon 705 fit that bill.

Large mouse, multiple buttons including what looked like a separate button for middle click (More on that later.) The price was right, so I bought it and sat back to wait for it to arrive.

Delivery day comes, I get the package and immediately open it and start setting it up. It was at this point when I discovered that the middle button does not in fact work as middle click. Instead it is a tactile button to switch the scroll wheel between indexed (clicky) mode, and free scrolling. Not a game changer, but still kind of annoying. I use 3D modeling software and depended on that middle click for panning and rotating camera. Clicking on a mousewheel is really, really annoying, and the Anywhere MX had that dedicated Middle click button. So I decided go to the Logitech website to find software for it. The Logitech Options software does not have the M705 listed in it's compatible devices, so I searched around and found Logitech's old "Set Point" software.

Set Point is useless. It's pretty much only for connecting multiple devices to a single USB receiver, which the new Unifying software does now. I decided to download and install the Option's software anyway, just to see. And the M705 IS COMPATIBLE with it. So download and use that if you want to swap button functions. I now have one of the side buttons mapped to Middle click, while the other side button unmapped, as well as the scroll wheel's actual middle click.

Testing the mouse out again and it is working as intended, although the middle click being on the side will take some getting used to. But the mouse is big, comfortable, sensitive, and hopefully will last me as many years as my old MX Anywhere used to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great mouse, but very delicate.
Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2021

I've had three of these mice, and they work really great, and are easily programmable with Logitech's software (be sure to check for the latest version on their web site).
The only con I have is that they are very delicate. The first one I had got knocked off my desk by my cat, landed on the carpet, and refused to work anymore. The cursor would move, but the left button and the scroll wheel did nothing. Tried turning it off and removing the batteries, then reinstalling the batteries and turning it back on, but still nothing.
The second one I knocked off the desk while cleaning up, and it fell about 18" into my office chair. It's a very comfortable and soft seat, but too hard for the mouse. This time, nothing worked except the cursor moving around the screen.
I have another, and I guess I'll have to attach a under the mouse tray, or a helium filled balloon, to keep from losing it. I would buy another though; it fits my hand just right, and I love the flexibility of the programming, just not its delicacy.

Warning! If you want to use this mouse for CAD or anything involving the middle-button click, find something different. The middle-button is optimized to allow scrolling both up & down, and left & right, so this means the middle click becomes compromised. I need the middle click as a core function in my Design work, and about 1/3 of the time the click does not register, and it's really hard to press it down hard enough instead of switch to scrolling. You have to click it at the right angle for it to register, and even then, it sometimes doesn't register.
