Great product, terrible packaging.

These lentils were great. I had never had black lentils, but they're my new favorite. they cook like any other lentil, but leech out a purple color, sort of like black rice. They have a plumper texture than other lentils, and aren't as gritty (which is what sets most people off about lentils). Good flavor too.
My only gripe is the packaging. I ordered 5 bags of lentils, and 3 of them had several holes in them from shipping and were leaking into the shipping box. The bag these come in is sort of like a standard flour paper bag, but weaker; if you were to poke it with your finger, your finger would go right through. I had to transfer them to big storage containers when I received them.

WILL NOT SPROUT! + No replies from anyone...

NO reply from either manufacturer or vendor.

The item's image shows a bowl of these beautifully sprouted. I don't eat legumes without sprouting them. They are difficult to digest & I like them better sprouted. It makes them taste fresh & crispy in salads or can still be cooked after sprouting just until you get a little bud. It makes them more bio-available imo. They should sprout. Best by date is mid 2024. No refund or return allowed. Buy a different brand from a different vendor imo. I contacted the provider, Clear Creek & will see what they say. Funny their label has an entire legal statement regarding liability...Why? Its food. Weird.
**Not a reputable company in my experience**

I just got these today. Very clean. 1 cup went straight into my Instant Pot with 3 cups water and a Tb of Better than Bullion for 8 minutes pressure then 15 minute natural release then rinsed in cold water. Made almost 3 cups drained. Wow! Are they good! I’m making Cowboy Caviar but couldn’t stop “sampling”. Hope there is enough left for my recipe. They are so fresh even 8 minutes pressure was too long and next time (and the next and the next) I’ll use 6 or 7 minutes for a firmer texture.

I made lentil soup with these babies. It was incredible. I was about to give up on lentils because the Trader Joe's green things tasted so awful. This was an entirely different experience. I'm already looking forward to my next Instant Pot black lentil experience.

First let me say I’m the pickiest eater on the planet and have horrible texture issues with food, but these lentils are absolutely amazing. I cook them down like I do Cajun red beans with spicy sausage. Absolutely mouthwatering. I’ve been on a major food jag with black lentils and about to order 12lbs of them to make sure I have plenty in stock. I went through 4lbs FAST as much as we have been eating them lol. Get them, you won’t regret it!

These are not found locally, so was happy to find them on Amazon. I made a sausage and lentil soup with some of these; it was excellent. The lentils cooked perfectly, and the texture was excellent...really made the soup!

Apparently my package was ripped at the Amazon warehouse, as there was tape over the middle of the bag, so who knows how much was lost...and what critters might have gotten into the bag. I contacted the seller, and they did offer to replace (speaks to their high level of customer service), but I declined as I know they didn't ship a torn bag.

In summary, excellent product and even better customer service. HIGHLY recommended!

Clean wash, no stones. Package recommended a shorter time of cooking than what I did and even so after 4 hours in a crock pot stew these little black lentils are the caviar of lentils, so tasty.

Put them in the morning bowl of oat groats, along with various berries, flax, chia, and hemp seeds …. Very filling… Not hungry for several hours .. feel superb+

Lentils are one of the most nutritious foods you can eat. An ideal protein. But not all lentils are created equal. I had discovered Beluga lentils some years ago and was intrigued. They're not like your usual "aspirin pill" shaped lentil, but more like a BB or micro-pea. This particular brand of Beluga lentils looks to be top quality. They do cook pretty quickly, in about 20 minutes. They're also hearty, not turning to mush if you let them sit for a while.

My taste quality test is to put a few spoonfuls of lentils on a plate, shower with a little salt & pepper and a little butter, stir, then eat. These lentils have a wonderful nutty taste and appealing texture. You can do so much with these lentils like adding to salads and soups. Give them a try -- you won't be disappointed!

I'm a trainer and nutritionist. I don't eat garbage, ever. I live on these and products like this and I could care less what they cost. These lentils are fresher, tastier, more robust and all around superior to anything found in the local grocery stores. We are lucky to have farms like this in the US. Support them! I do recommend purchasing them directly from the farm as they guarantee the freshness. Amazon has a tendency to sell old stock.
