How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsBuy this for your kid instead of the iPad, seriously
Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2021
This is everything I’ve wanted in a tablet for my child. He has an iPad, but has literally not used it since he got the fire. It’s perfect, here’s why.
- The battery life is great.
- The fact that it only displays downloads when we are somewhere with no wifi, saves me one million questions. (Amazon should honestly market that in the blurb.)
- The parental controls are easy and I can pick and choose which ones he can use.
- The expandable storage is so easy. He can take all the photos and videos that he wants and I won’t have to clear them out every couple of weeks to make more room.
- We did not download the YouTube Kids app and it’s life changing. No more bizarrely sexist videos of grown woman playing with dolls. However, we still have Blippi.
- Love having access to Kids+
- Love all of the traditional Kindle/Prime features (books, music, educational games, non-educational games)
- The kickstand is amazing and does not fall over of my child breathes on it. It’s also a great handle.

Things to note
- My child is 4 1/2
- He’s had an iPad for an embarrassing long time, so he is super comfortable using a tablet.
- We had gotten him a kindle fire 7 and just put a kids profile on it a couple years ago and this upgrade makes all the difference in the world.
- We are a kindle family, so the interface is not new or foreign to us.

Honestly, I love this over the iPad for my kid, because the iPad is not made for children. It is durable, absolutely. However, the fire is made for him and it’s laid out in a way that I know what he is watching and when he goes to download games and videos, they are appropriate.

2.0 out of 5 starsInterface is so bad
Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2021
We periodically get kindle fires, mostly for having a cheap tablet to download and watch movies while traveling. This is the first time we’ve gotten the kid version and the interface is just so, so, so bad.

It’s cluttered. I can’t find anything. I’m looking for tv shoes to download and the search pulls up 13 million unrelated apps, books, web videos and other junk I don’t want but I can’t find the basic show I do want.

I know it’s a cheap tablet but I’m ready to throw it out the window and pay for another iPad.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Warranty is a big lie it is NOT worry free.

I bought this kindle and had it for 49days. It started over heating and shutting off. I had bought this kindle as a 2 year worry free replacement. That was a lie, I was only given 2 options 1- send the kindle back and they would try to fix it if they couldn't they would then send me another and wait 2 weeks or pay $16 upgrade fee and they would send me a refurbished kindle, not a new one. When talking to support I was hung up on and not called back, the representatives will not let you talk supervisor they will not let you talk to someone higher up. I have never been treated this way ever from amazon I am very disappointed in there warranty service that you are pay to get. I have bought many kindles I am currently on number 17 and due to charging ports stop working or they are obsolete. I have always had awesome customer service till now. So be aware the warranty service is not what you think you are getting when buying.

2.0 out of 5 stars Warranty is not Worry free

We upgraded my son’s tablet from a Fire 8 to a Fire 10. The Fire 10 has a better battery life and picture quality, but the warranty is not as good as what we had previously with the Fire 8.

The screen isn’t as resilient as stated, even with a screen protector. Purchased the Fire 10 and screen protector in July of 2021 and the screen cracked in November of 2021. Upon calling Amazon support they do what’s called an in-service warranty, where you have to send the product back in and then they will repair it or send you a new one. That process takes about 2 weeks. The other process is to pay $15 for a new product. Of course, I opted for the $15 replacement but please be aware that this service is a lot different from before. The warranty with the Fire 8 was worry free as stated. The warranty for the Fire 10 is only worry free with an additional $15 each time you use the warranty, or go without the product for 2 weeks. Please correct that in your description so customers can know what they are purchasing. Thank you.

2.0 out of 5 stars High hopes destroyed :-(
Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2021

I had such high hopes for these tablets (purchased two), but they turned out to be extremely disappointed. My boys have been using Samsung Galaxy tablets for the past few years (inherited my old ones), and one died when we were out of town. Since they’re only 5, I wanted something more kid focused with good parental controls. Enter the Kindle Fire 10.0 Kids Pro. Unfortunately, this tablet didn’t even come close to meeting my expectations. For some reason, the apps I download on the parent side can not be seen on the kids side. In fact, they’re not even an option when I access the parent portal. I spent two hours on the phone with Amazon customer service and an additional hour via online chat with no answers. No one can tell me what the issue is. The only reason I didn’t return the tablets is because of the 2-year warranty. Thankfully my kids know how to use a “regular” tablet, so I don’t even bother with the kids side of it. They just use the parent side and have access to the apps I want them to. The other ones are hidden. I would not recommend this tablet to anyone. It’s not worth the frustration in my opinion.

2.0 out of 5 stars Major charging issues
Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2021
Color: DoodleStyle: Standalone Fire Kids ProVerified Purchase
Got this for my 10 year olds birthday. Functionally it has been great however nearly every time we charge it gets to 37-57% and stops even if plugged in over night. If we restart it will finish charging but it makes me wonder if we got a faulty one or if it is some sort of software issue. Wanted to get my 4 year old one for Christmas but this has us reconsidering…

Update:
After having the problem yet again and restarting twice its still having issues charging. Definitely wish I would’ve just gotten another iPad at this point. They last for many more years and the warranty is better. I like the Amazon kids stuff and she is really enjoying the books so it’s really a shame they can’t work out the software issues. When I inquired they immediately sent me a video on restarting it so I guess they don’t know how to fix it. They offered to repair it tho if their “repair” is to restart it then what is the point? I’m very disappointed they don't do the replace/return old as the entire time it is sent off she wont have access to the books or kids paid subscription. Also I’m assuming a replacement would have the same issues.
Second update: 12/18/21 after about a week of conversing via phone with a very kind lady over about 3 phone calls and troubleshooting it was worked out that it needed replaced. I was told i could repack the faulty one in the new box, print label and send off. I did just that driving about 30 mins to a drop box that someone had put a too big box in and jammed the whole thing. Drove across town to another box that was hanging wide open empty. I then had to return home to pick up my kid from school no time to drive around more. I called to see if i could get a ups pickup instead as i wont be back in town for awhile. I was told one was arranged that i would get an email confirmation and to stay home the next 3 days and wait for it to be picked up. Never got an email confirming. I guess this is where I need to invest in a outdoor camera to make sure the correct person picks it up if i have to leave. I waited 2 days, was concerned the truck that was by my house came while i was picking up my kid from school…turns out via chat then phone call I'm informed the pick up wasn’t set up by original person. They say they are now and person will pick up the next day (today) which is a Saturday…no one has come. I look at email they sent and they don't come on weekends. I’m fed up at this point. Can’t get anyone that knows what they’re doing when i call. They wont let me return via usps i asked multiple times. I wont be here Monday when (if) they come and the email says an adult need to be present to give them the item. (Tho one of the many told me to just leave it on the porch they didn’t know what to tell me about it possibly being stolen or blown away) I’ve also since gotten an email stating i will get a cash refund for my return of the second one that is $40 less than i paid for the first one so they are all kinds of confused. As for the new tablets so far it seems to have no charging issues. Too bad they can’t get it together.

It's not Android .. this sums up everything.
It's Amazon realm only.
and almost 90% of preinstalled services is subject to subscription fees
you can't delete, uninstall or even remove Amazon apps from home screen.
at least give me the option to hide it since I will not use it!

there is no google play store, so I can't install some important apps that my kids use for the school!!

I thought this device will be an Android device + some Amazon apps/configurations for kids
But this device is made to market the paid Amazon services.

I bought two of these. One worked fine and continues to work fine. The other acted very weird. It was unresponsive, would not unlock, and needed to be repaired. It took a VERY LONG time to get resolution. I was told a new one would be sent and to return mine. I had seven days to return it and was supposed to keep everything extra and only send the tablet. Fine. I packed it up and sent it in the original box. That was September 9th/10th. September 24th I finally received the replacement after a long call to Amazon on the 19th. They told me to repurchase the tablet. SO confused. I go to do that, and the price is $70 more than the price I paid. I call again. They give me a $60 credit. I go to place my order, and notice that they say they ARE sending me a new one. I decide to wait and see what comes. I really have no idea what happened to the credit. I imagine it expired, but sure enough many days later, the tablet arrived without the stand! I call again. Guess what!? The stand was part of a case and not part of the tablet. I did not even know that, because it was a hard piece that totally seemed like part of the tablet. I would not have even thought to try to take it off. Our previous tablets have the soft rubber case that is clearly a case and easy to remove. So now, I am officially told that they cannot do anything about it. NOT COOL!!!! I cannot use it with my six year old without the case and the cases are $36. I don't even want it and now need to call AGAIN! :(

I thought my daughter would be able to do her homework on Istation through the kids' profile. Nope! I have to log into my profile for her to use it. It's an app for kids to learn! You can only have one adult profile per tablet, so my wife has to log into mine to do anything. There is no way to organize apps on the home screen, at all. I lost all the pictures my daughter took on her old Fire, because kids profiles are locked from transferring photos and videos onto other devices. Therefore, I had to purchase SD cards for my kids' tablets so we don't lose the photos next time. Now someone can just simply remove the SD card to steal the photos or videos. Stupid.... I'm thinking I should have just purchased the regular Fire or another brand of tablet.

I got the fire hd 10 pro on prime day for a good deal but it came with a few bugs.
1. When streaming on YouTube kids full screen, the tablet will randomly go to sleep without being touched and no signs of low battery.
2. When we click full screen on YouTube kids it will not display the video on full screen unless we tilt it vertically and then horizontally.
3. Also on YouTube kids when we use the search option the top of it gets cut off. You will not see the search display other than the recommended search list.
Overall useful and good design for kids to use but my kid gets frustrated by these bugs and he would rather reach for the iPad instead

2.0 out of 5 stars Great for consuming, unusable for creating
Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2021
Color: Sky BlueStyle: Standalone Fire Kids ProVerified Purchase
If you want your kid to consume online content from subscription services, games, and so on, this is a very good device. However, if you want your kids to create something, such as images, drawings, videos, edit photos, write something, then the Fire Kids Pro is basically unusable. Not only are most apps you would need missing but getting content, e.g., their photos, on and off the device is a nightmare. Even more, several of the apps that are available do not fully work in kids mode because they cannot access storage (among other reasons). You will end up buying file management and FTP apps just to copy a file.
