How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsNot fake, Size is as expected (read this for explanation)
Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2021
For all the reviews saying the size isn't right (and thinking that means the cards are fake) you are not reading the description and you don't understand how hard drives, SSDs, flash drives, or memory cards are sold. This is an industry standard. Your computer reads things in multiples of 1,024... so 1,024 bytes is a KB, 1,024 KB is a MB... 1,204 MB is a GB, etc... But all drives are sold in multiples of 1,000. So if you buy a 512GB card, and do the math... device makers are saying that card is 512,000,000,000 bytes. But divide that by 1,024 and your operating system will see it as 476.84GB. Beyond that, you also lose a small percentage for the "file system" index on the drive. So you may see a few GB less even. In my case, I have a 256GB card, which shows up as 238GB, which is exactly as expected. The description on this listing explains this with the text:
1MB=1,000,000 bytes. 1GB=1,000,000,000 bytes. 1TB=1,000,000,000,000 bytes. Actual user storage less.

That explained, I tested my card's speed to see if it hits the 120MB/s ideal... not really. But marketing hype being what it is, I'm sure the "Speed up to 120/MB/s**" is in perfectly ideal conditions with specific readers and file sizes and the like... so my test of 93MB/s on a 10 year old USB 3 card reader with the SD adapter is acceptable to me. I think this should work fine on a soon to arrive Nintendo Switch for the kids. I'll update this review if any surprises come up that should be noted.

1.0 out of 5 starsActual user storage less???
Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2020
The 512GB micro SD card show actual capacity of 476GB (tested with Chromebook and Win10 PC). This is difference of 36GB. When we called Sandisk customer support they told us that this is normal. If they sell 32GB micro SD cards for money and not giving them for free, why do they think that selling cards with 36GB of storage less than the advertised is normal?!?

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in its size
Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2020

Que “that’s what she said” jokes. Transfer speed’s nothing to write home about either.

It only has 366GB as opposed to the 400GB advertised. Glad I got it on sale for $40 because I feel a little cheated. Speed isn’t anywhere near the 120MBps advertised either. More like 25MBps.
I even tried putting it in performance mode under device manager. Nothing.

I get 20-24MBps using the SD adapter, and 15-18 when it’s in my phone and the phone is connected to the pc via USB 3.0.

Thought maybe I got a fake, but it’s not. I’m beginning to wish I had gotten Samsung instead. Maybe I wouldn’t feel so cheated if they called it a 380GB card. I expect some tolerances in manufacturing, but nearly 10% is a big chunk imo. Maybe I expect too much. Idk. Not like there’s much competition in this arena.

* Update:
My phone sees 394GB max. No idea why Windows can’t see the other 28GB, but I can probably fill the remaining space internally (photos, downloads over wifi) instead of copying from the PC. The problem remains, perhaps compounds, that Windows sees 28GB less space, so if I have a full card that I want to unload onto my PC, will r magically see the other 28GB, or will that data be missing, visible only to my phone or camera?

If I find a workaround or something, I’ll update this review with that info.

*** FINAL UPDATE ***
I reformatted the card in an attempt to make Windows see the missing 28 GB (exFat). I even let it do the slow formatting overnight. No change at all.

Final verdict: next time I need a microSD card, I’m trying Samsung.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not 120MB/s with any standard device
Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2022
Capacity: 128GBStyle: Memory CardVerified Purchase
I picked up this card to use with a new Android tablet. I mainly wanted this for the storage capacity. Performance was secondary but since this is an "SDXC Class10 U1 A1" rated card I figured that it would be good for app offload also.

Before dropping this into my tablet I benchmarked the card using a UHS-II reader on my Macbook Pro. This card is only UHS-I meaning it has a max data rate of 104MB/s. I benchmarked this card at 90MB/s read and just 30MB/s write. I have a much older SanDisk 32gb SDHC U1 card that benchmarks at 92MB/s read and 52MB/s write on the same reader, yet it's rated at "just" 80MB/s.

SanDisk claim "Up to 120MB/s read speed, engineered with proprietary technology to reach speeds beyond UHS-I 104MB/s, require compatible devices capable of reaching such speed." Well, with any devices you're likely to actually have 90MB/s is the best you'll ever see. They should have simply made this a UHS-II card or better yet advertised a speed that you can actually get on real devices.

I'm particularly disappointed with the write performance. Theoretically larger cards can achieve better performance yet my older smaller card gets nearly twice the write speed.

If you need a card for video storage this card is a cheap decent option. If you need write speed, keep looking: these are not the cards you're looking for.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great product with a misleading description
Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2022
Capacity: 32GB (Pack of 2)Style: Memory CardVerified Purchase
First of all, to address the many complaints about formatting these in FAT32 format, these generally arrive already formatted as FAT32. I took it straight from the package and, using my own adapter, plugged it into my PC and verified that it was FAT32. Copied some mp3 files to it and placed into my mp3 player and it worked just fine. So please, just try them in your device before you do anything else!

These are genuine SanDisk products. They are very reliable and they work great. So, why only three stars? Because they DO NOT include an adapter as described. Ordinarily, this would not be a problem as most of us have many of them lying around. However, if you needed one, and were expecting one in the package (as in the description), you would be out of luck.

It's not worth the time and trouble for me to bother with asking for a replacement. And, as stated, I have many of them. I only mention it because it may matter to future buyers.

Overall, it's a great product at a good price. I hope they either change the description to make it more accurate or include the SD card adapter in the future.

3.0 out of 5 stars Failed after 3 months - don't use in your phone
Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2021
Capacity: 128GBStyle: Memory CardVerified Purchase
I used this in my Moto G7 Power phone. It failed and caused me much grief. I had researched this, looking at lots of reviews. They all said it would work in my phone as System Memory (which is what I needed). I had a prior, lesser brand card that had failed. This card should work. It didn't last long. I went through the SanDisk replacement process.... painful. The told me that they were being nice in sending a replacement. I take offense to that. So their support brought this down to 3 stars. An I think I'm being generous with that.
I had to send the old card back to them. They paid the return shipping (a plus). I finally go notice that a new one is being shipped. All in all, over 3 weeks. Way too much effort. In the mean time, I purchased a competitive product from Samsung. Hopefully I'll have better luck. As for the replacement SanDisk, it will just be another general SD card that I will use with my computers.

3.0 out of 5 stars I only got 119GB

This SanDisk 128GB SanDisk 128GB Ultra MicroSDXC UHS-I Memory Card with Adapter - 120MB/s, C10, U1, Full HD, did not give me the total GB that is indicated on the card. As stated in my title- I got only 119GD total once I installed it on my Amazon Fire 8HD 20016 tablet. Before I bought this card, I read several reviewers comment with the same complaint, but also others reviewers that said they got the full total GB as seen on the card, so I do not know why there is a difference, but there obviously is. I assume that this card is not a knock off, so again why some consumers like my self get less GB while others get the full 128GB as described on the card- is a question Amazon needs to investigate. I know Amazon has to know about the discrepancy because it has to approve these reviews before they are posted. I would not recommend other consumers to purchase this card, if you are looking to get full GB as indicated on the card because you might and you might not.

Update:I rated down to 3 stars because the speed isn't that fast when creating a video file that is large(storage changed to micro SD card)and the transfer speed isn't that fast either, but oh well.I bought this Sandisk micro SD card for my phone because my new motorola one phone is downsized in space from 128gb to 64gb from my previous z4play and that's not alot or enough space to have for games and movies.I've only had this sd card for a couple days,so i can't judge on the speed and transfer speed, but the size is great and the price is affordable for that amount to.I have a full 128gb after formatting this sd micro on my phone as well.Overall,i always go with sandisk products for more space.

I have ordered 2 or 3 of these because I have like 4 cameras & 6 tablets. These are hit & miss. The one in my daughters tablet worked only for about 2 or 3 months & went corrupt. Error messages kept appearing stating SD card couldn't be read, it was corrupt, it needed to be formatted again, it was not compatible, & things like that. One in one of my security cameras just quit working all together. It couldn't be detected in any device. I have another one in another cameras & it works great. I wish they were more consistent on the better side. I

Even after formatting with Sandisk' SD Format tool, its still says 366 gb.

Windows writes "GB" but means "GiB". This is an ancient peculiarity that Microsoft is aware of but refuses to fix because "users became used to it". Microsoft has a history of refusing to follow standards, this is one of those instances...

400 GB are ~372 GiB, subtract a bit for the MFT and you come out at 366 GiB (= 393 GB) available.
