why 51?

My dog loves all three flavors of these. The beef and chicken ones are really strong-scented, which is a bit off-putting, but it's for the dog so I don't have to stick my face into it or anything.

That said... why only 51 treats? I had to buy an additional pack of dental treats to bridge the gap between days 51 and 60, because my subscribe-and-save comes every two months. That seems like an odd choice. And if you have two dogs, it won't even last you a month. Three dogs? 17 days. You see where I'm going with this. Strange choice by Pedigree.

Gave my dog an upset stomach

After giving these to my dog, she started to vomit following meals. Not sure if it was these dental sticks or something else she ate, we stopped giving them to her until her tummy settled down and she was back to normal. Then we re-introduced the dental sticks to her again. Her upset stomach issues returned. That was enough to convince us that she couldn't tolerate something in the dental sticks.

In all fairness, like humans, dogs have allergies to certain food ingredients. Thus, I'm not saying these will make your dog sick. There's something in them that my dog is very sensitive to and it upsets her stomach. They may be just fine for your dog(s). You'll have to try them, if so inclined, and see.

Highly recommend these as a treat and keeping their oral health. We buy these regularly with Kong Large as a care package for displaced dogs. My neighbor fosters a lot of dogs, and every month we get her a nice cushion leash, Dentastix and Kong. Most of the dogs we send this care package to has had their teeth neglected. So it is quite important that they get this dentastix. We did a lot of research and decided on this set of products because they all work very well.

Not only do my dogs and vet like these, THEY WORK!! I have 2 senior dogs (one with terrible dental problems) and their breath is always horrendous. I've tried the greenies, doggie mints, and the water additive. Of the other things I've tried, either they didn't work or my dogs hated them. My dogs absolutely LOVE the dentastix and because they're less bone-like than other options, my dogs can enjoy these in the 5-10 mins it takes for me to get ready for bed every night. It's a win-win situation!

I've been giving these to my black lab since she was a puppy (she'll be 9 in December). Her vet is impressed as to how nice her teeth are and how white they are. I've never had to have her teeth professionally cleaned at any point of her life. The mint flavor stix's really help keep her "dog breath" under control. I give her a different flavor each day. She loves them all. She gets very excited when I pull them out of the pantry. Her tail is waging hard enough to bruise my leg of it hits it.

My dog knows exactly what I mean when I say "It's time to brush your teeth!" She loves these things and gets one at lunch time daily to serve as a quick snack between breakfast and dinner. I alternate flavors now rather than go 1 bag at a time. She likes all 3 flavors. It's just the right amount so she doesn't express that she's hungry until right at dinner time.

We adopted her at age 6 and she didn't have great teeth. We noticed her teeth situation hasn't gotten any worse so keeps the pup and mom and dad happy.

Our Irish Wolfhounds Love Them!

We rescue and rehabilitate Irish Wolfhounds that were purchased by new owners who must not have done their homework before buying them. Both of our current charges came at young ages. Piper the brindle female was only six months old and Finnegan the wheaton male was twelve months old. They are a fairly complicated breed which can host a myriad of problems from allergies and joint injuries to heart problems and cancer.

Rather than give them regular treats while training them we break each of these sticks in two and give them pieces of the DENTASTIX dental treats for rewards. They obviously do a good job because the dogs love the taste, their breath is fresher and their teeth cleaner. Gone are the yellow canines that used to catch your eye.

Unfortunately our male (Finn) is subject to food allergies and it quickly became obvious that he was allergic to these treats. Piper on the other hand can evidently eat almost anything. I guess that she will get a full treat each time we reward her. Finn will have to move on to something else.

I wasn't sure if it was going to be okay to buy these on Amazon, but I'm very happy I did. They were well within their "Best Before" dates and came undamaged, and I got to save money since some bigger name pet stores have been increasing prices on these. There was a time when I tried to brush her teeth with that peanut butter flavored toothpaste, but she curled her lips around her teeth so much her face was puckered, so I canned that idea. My stubborn senior pup absolutely loves these smelly sticks, and I love that they keep her teeth clean and keep her happy.

If you've never used them before, they ARE pungent, but it's worth it. They also have a rubbery sound when they chew, but they're awesome for cleaning teeth. My girl's teeth are nice and white, and the tartar and plaque she used to have built up on her back chompers are mostly gone. I don't know how long it took, but I've had her on these for months, and I just rotate flavors for her. Super recommend these.

My dog gets one of these every afternoon after 3 as his afternoon snack. He's on a high calorie food so he gets less of it, and he gets the munchies like the rest of us. My vet told me to avoid rawhide, bone, and antler as all can cause issues in their own way that could lead to death. I don't worry about giving him this.

He has chronic leg and hip issues from being hit by a car before we met him, so I have to make sure anything I give him doesn't cause him to get above a healthy weight. That could put more strain on it.

He gets the mint one at night and his vet said that his teeth and gums look healthy even though he hasn't had a cleaning in 7 years. This is correlation, not causation, so I cannot promise you'll have the same experience.

He knows what time he gets his snack and every day is absolutely as excited to get it as he is in the video. He then dances in front of the cabinet they're kept in. It's ridiculously cute.

They're solid, but not hard hard, when they're fresh. When they get super stiff, it's because the package wasn't closed properly. I have yet to receive a package with ones that aren't fresh from Amazon, though I did from the grocery store regularly.

They smell kind of like bacon, but not bacon I'd want to eat. My dog, on the other hand, loves it so much and seems to really relish it every day. And that's what's important. He didn't like the plain ones, and we're talking about an animal I've seen eat fur when he thinks it's food on the floor. Dude is single minded at times. But the bacon and mint ones are absolute favorites.

I am feeding him the original flavor treat in the video, I wanted to know right away if he would take to the treat, even if it’s not “beef” or “chicken” flavored (his favorites).
