Works well with USB-C laptops and phones, but with one small catch.

This adapter does exactly what it says it will. I'm not sure what speeds it reads/writes at, but that's not really important to me. I just need it should I ever need to quickly access my dashcam's microSD card contents on my phone.

The adapter has a small red indicator LED to show that it's working properly. I like this because the light is very subtle, and you only notice it if you look for it. Therefore, it doesn't get overly bright and annoying, but you can still locate the light to double check that the adapter is being recognized.

The only complaint I have with this product is that the full sized SD card port is not deep enough to recognize if the SD card is locked or unlocked, so there is no way for you to make your SD card read only with this adapter, even if the latch is in the locked position. This may be an inconvenience if the SD card has very important information that shouldn't be written over or deleted.

The TargetGo USB C SD TF card reader answers the question, “I’ve just paid £1,000-plus for a laptop and it only has USB C sockets, so how do I copy photos from my camera?”

It plugs into a USB-C slot and adds the power to read SD cards. One slot marked SD takes full size camera cards, the other marked TF takes MicroSD cards.

The build quality is what you’d expect from something that’s £8.99 at time of review.

It has a very short USB C lead, so it’s obviously intended to sit on your desk beside the computer (laptop, really).

There’s no need to panic if you’re one of the many people who don’t have the tech equivalent of “green fingers”. As the product description says, the hub is “plug and play”. Your computer should just adapt to it automatically. No drivers required.

There are limits. You can only use cards with camera friendly formats. It’s FAT32 and EXFAT only. If you’re using SD cards as general storage memory sticks, it won’t read NTFS (or, presumably, any of the Linux/Unix formats).

You can only read one card in one slot at a time.

You should be able to use it with any USB type C or Thunderbolt equipped laptop, phone or iPad.

It’s not expensive … but it only does one job. If that’s all you need, it’s ideal.

I've got a lot of SD cards and micro SD cards stashed away in my desk drawer from old phones and gadgets, they have labels with dates or which phone they came from but if I want to find a particular picture or file I have to take the case off my tablet, eject my card out of the slot (ignoring the warnings about things may not working) and insert the cards I want to view until I find the right one. It's a bit of a bind and of course my standard SD cards won't fit, can't even remember what's on most of them.

Then this marvellous reader came along. I had recently found a micro SD from an old phone and decided to try looking on it to see what was on it.

I didn't really know how to use the reader so I just popped the card in and plugged it into the USB C point on my Amazon Fire HD10 tablet.

Wow, that was so easy, I didn't know you could do that, I found the drive easily on the drop down menu on my tablet and was able to click on it to see photos, videos and listen to music. All worked perfectly and it was easy to eject the drive from the drop down menu when I had finished looking.

You have no idea how happy I am with this, it's a revelation to me. I would give it ten stars if I could. I'm going to look around to see if I can get something to view my many memory sticks from my old laptop now I know it can be done.

Build quality.
The build is fine for a card reader. The card slots are solid. I would have liked a longer cable though.

In use.
These are great little devices allowing you to read camera cards into your computer. Years ago, computers used to come with card slot but not anymore so these are very necessary for photographers who want to back up in the field. This one works fine and supports Sd and micro Sd card.
It reads fast and I have not had any errors while reading into my Mac. I also used it as an OTG reader on my phone to back up pictures and it was easy to do.

Overall.
These are very useful and easily portable. This one works quickly and reads 100% accurately. A very good little card reader.
