How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsYou need a latest gen reader to get full speeds
Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2022
So most of the reviews here were done with previous gen SD card readers. These new gen EVO Select cards comply to new standards and those new standards require new card readers in order to get the full speed the card is capable of. You'll need a latest gen card reader to get the upgraded speed for your computer.

Samsung has a new card reader, but it seems that you cannot buy it separately, at least I cannot find it for sale separately after searching everywhere, including Samsung's website. There are card+reader bundles available for their new PRO Plus cards, but there is no bundle available with the EVO Select cards.

I found a few new UHS-II readers from Kingston. This one is for full size SD cards but it works perfectly using the Micro to SD card adapter that ships with the EVO Select cards. The Kingston is only $10 (at the time of this review) and it works perfectly. The results in the attached screenshot were done with a new 512GB EVO Select and this card reader.

Kingston also has a micro SD card version of the UHS-II reader if you prefer not to use adapters, but it's slightly more expensive at $12.30 (at the time of this review). But I suggest that you get the regular SD version since it's not only less expensive, but far more flexible since you can use both full size SD and micro SD with an adapter, whereas you cannot use the micro version of the reader with full size SD cards if the need ever arises.

As far as the Samsung EVO Select card itself, it's a quality Samsung card, which is all I've used for the past decade. You should note that no matter what the speed of the card that you buy is capable of, if the device you're going to use it in is not capable of that speed internally, you'll only get the max speed of that device, but not necessarily the max speed of the card. As this is a brand new generation SD card, most devices are just not capable of the speed this card has internally at this time and you'll likely not see any benefit from it in anything but the very latest high end flagship phones and very latest high end DSLR cameras, if that. At this time, most of them simply won't have internal interfaces capable of these read/write speeds yet. Future devices probably will.

So you may not need or see any benefit other than faster computer transfers using this very latest card for your device (and only with the very latest gen SD card readers). With that in mind, you may save money buying a slightly older gen card. Just bear that in mind before you spend your money.

3.0 out of 5 stars 256GB card is decent, but 64GB cards have slow write speed.
Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2021
Capacity: 256GBVerified Purchase
256GB Review: I bought this SD card because it has fast rated speeds, and it has a good price for those speeds. When I got it, I ran a benchmark, and the speeds aren't as good as expected. I don't think that what I will be using the card for will saturate these speeds, but they're still below the rated speed.

64GB Review: I bought 4 of these these because they weren't much more than bundles of "slower" SD cards, however, now that I have them, I may have been able to save money and get faster cards if I went with a different option. Read speeds are consistent with the 256GB card, however the sequential write speeds on all 4 cards are much slower than the 256GB card.

I have averaged the speeds of all 4 64GB cards, and I have attached images of the fastest and slowest cards going by write speeds.
Q8 SEQ Read: 97.94MB/s (All of the cards I have got this exact speed, weird, but I'll take it.)
Q8 SEQ Write: 34.71MB/s

Q1 SEQ Read: 94.53MB/s
Q1 SEQ Write: 34.55MB/s

Q32 RND4K Read: 12.21MB/s
Q32 RND4K Write: 4.08MB/s

Q1 RND4K Read: 9.95MB/s
Q1 RND4K Write: 3.49MB/s

I have ran these tests on a Rocketek ‎RT-TFU3R-B, however I have tested the 256GB card and a 64GB card in 3 other USB card readers and a PCIe card reader. There were no statistically significant differences in the speeds.

These 64GB cards will also be used for purposes where I am unlikely to notice the slower speeds, however, I have reduced the rating to three stars because of how much slower the 64GB cards are. If all of these cards still work a year from now, I will up my review to 4 stars. However with how my luck is with flash media, that will be very unlikely.

3.0 out of 5 stars Write speed is slower than previous version
Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2021
Capacity: 128GBVerified Purchase
I have an older version (100MB/s) 128GB card, and its performance is excellent in both read and write speeds. I thought the new version should have faster read and similar write speed at least. But that's not the case. The read speed does reach 130MB/s, but write speed is only 60MB/s, falling far behind what the previous version at 80MB/s. See two screen captures - left (new version), right (old version).

The adapter that came with it seemed to be a bad one. It keeps showing as write protected for one SD card reader and was slow on the other reader. I took an old adapter and finally got it working with CrystalDiskMark.

Overall I'm not so excited about this new version. I will keep it as a back up card for now and see how it performs.

This card did not work in my GoPro hero 10. After a few seconds of recording the GoPro said to try a v30 memory card which this is supposed to be. This card did work in my hero 7 so i don't feel like I completely wasted my money.

3.0 out of 5 stars New Gen (Blue Evo Select) 256GB rated at 130MB/s gets less than 100MB/s sequential read
Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2022

So, more bogus advertising from Samsung. I am pretty fed up with their claims about speeds when reality shows they are missing the mark by a wide margin. The two screenshots are for two different Blue (A2) 256GB Samsung Evo Select MicroSD cards, both purchased from Amazon. The write speeds are within tolerance for my need but the read speeds were 30MB/s less than advertised, consistently. "Up to
130MB/s" is what they claim and they know what they are really giving people, 90Mb/s. FYI!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nintendo Shield TV says it is too slow
Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2022
Capacity: 256GBVerified Purchase
The sequential read and write tests in my Samsung A71 phone were OK. I even used another app to check every one of the 2 trillion bits on the microsd card. They passed with flying colors! No errors! Why am I giving it just three stars? I bought it to use in my Shield TV stick. It said the card was too slow. I needed to use a UHS 1 card or better. This was supposed to be and even better card than that! Running apps to see if there was anything wrong with the card, I ran an app in the second picture. The random write speed was only 602 KB/s! With an A2 rating i would have expected much more.

EDIT: I read on another microsd review that you needed to restart the Shield before you format the card. I tried it on a plain 32mb Sandisk card that was also reported too slow. It then formatted! Maybe this one will too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow write speeds but inexpensive and seems to be reliable
Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2021

Read and write speeds are never as fast as advertised and they can differ depending on the device used for testing. That said, I got about 93MBs read & a mere 7.5MBs write with this 128 GB microSD. I knew it wasn't the fastest when I purchased it. It was inexpensive and it fits the bill for my current use. If you have the need for speed in both directions, this is not the card for you. Go for a higher in Samsung or SanDisk. SanDisk ultra Is faster and just slightly more expensive.

Got this for a portable game handheld, Never did heavy read or write operations on this SD card, It just died when trying to transfer some files, Windows detected several bad sectors and now the SD card no longer reads after formatting. I am very tech literate so naturally I check the partitions and it it not segmented at all and is still one single partition, I even tried formatting it in ExFAT and FAT32 and nothing could be done to get the card to read again. I cant even assign it a drive letter. Cant say I am impressed.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK card, good price
Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2022

This card will do the job and it was good priced. I tested if after delivery using H2testw and it is the promised size. What made me suspicious was the lousy reading speed of just average 70.8MByte/s.
I tested it multiple times using different programs with two computers both with current generation high speed card readers that achieve much faster speeds with more expensive cards. The reasing speed was always around 70MByte. This is fast enough for many cases but not close to the promised speed.

Recommended by Amazon for my dash cam. Does not work not Fat 32 compatible. Don't believe suggestions when they say buy these together they don't always work and then you have the hassle of having to send it back and return it and wait for a new one and hopefully you don't close your 30-day return window for whatever you're using it for. Yes BS BS
